I just think her eyes are a bit too close. Wouldn’t exactly call that high standards, just a personal preference. If IG wants her eyes to be that close, then fair enough, that’s how she looks like. I don’t think it looks nice, but we all have our flaws - even fictional characters.
I’m very disappointed in Kim Wu, she looks badly designed and we’re a month and a half or so away from release of Season 3 so unless that was a really early build of her, it is troublesome to see. She doesn’t even compete with the rest of the roster because her face looks wooden, her character/voice is too immature teeny/annoying and her movements are super stiff looking making Maya’s movements look like they flow smoothly as water.
I find Kim-Wu is really bad looking on par with very early stages of TJ Combo’s design. Compare his face from then to now and it is worlds apart. For all the time MS and IG had for Season 3, I feel like they made the stupid Toad look better than an actual important to the lore character. I didn’t think I was going to be so upset like this but you guys really broke my heart so far with all the KI season 3 news, I hope they are working their ■■■ off to get her looking on par with other characters. I’m still trying to get excited since the stupid guests were announced and now we have this plus the Arbiter?
It’s truly sad…
#Kim Wu is not the main event peeps…
LOL! XD THIS IS SO FUNNY! Kim Wu’s face is normal… I mean she not ugly like Riptor. lol
I really dig her stage. very cool!
(unfortunately, first thing I noticed is that when they step in a puddle of water, well nothing happens, no splashes… )
I’m still on the same page as you in regards to Kim Wu but It’s kinda funny because what you liked was what I disliked and what I liked about her is what you disliked. I do think your bang on earlier last year when they are trying to attract “a younger audience” with the Saturday morning Cartoon vibe on Cinders voice and they’ve basically did the same thing to Kim Wu in regards too make her appeal to a younger crowd and I think with her, they are trying to get young teenage girls as well as boys to play Killer Instinct since it’s more popular for young women to play video games unlike when you and I were younger it was mostly just young men. Her gameplay does look cool and I do love the purple and pink but her voice is so similar to early-mid 00s female cartoon shows and she even said “fate the middle finger” which really put me off. I also think that her stage was an exact copy of Chun-Li and wasn’t a cool flower blossom or octagon like a lot of users requested on the forums. I think other than the stage, the blurry face, and especially the voice, if those could be fixed and everything else the same, I personally would be pleased with her.
Christ, really? People have been spoiled by anime and games that don’t design their characters to match their cultures properly and thus we get a large group of people who start thinking that is the norm.
Go outside to a local Korean community, see what they look like, then realize that this is one of the better attempts at making a face as close to realistic as possible. That being said, she’s nowhere near as good as Maya or Sadira and I’m hoping that gets tweaked before release.
I love this post so I’m giving it a quote and a like.
Couldn’t hear either that well, so yea, I’m in the same boat as you right now. Didn’t get to see her Ultra Ender either.
I don’t know if you can restrict that to just Western developers. Its surprising that even with next-gen we can’t really get women to look like they should.
Maybe you live in a more civilized area than I do, but college is usually where this kinda attitude is. Dialogue’s a bit cheesy sure.
Firstly, its Anita Sarkeesian. If you’re gonna hate on someone, atleast name them properly. Also, she’s not behind any of this. You want sexy women? Anime games have plenty of them. Heck, Orchid, Maya and Sadira are all sexy in their own respects. Give it a rest, if you want ■■■■ material, look up Rule 34 fan art.
Also something you haven’t actually seen yet.
If it sells well, yes. Dev team helping out? probably not though.
We all had an ideal version of her we wanted, the odds of it being exactly how you thought it would be were astronomical. But hey, you learned to be more grounded so that’s good.
Because as people we don’t want to agree on things we already agree on. We want discourse on topics of contention, which usually end up being someone’s dislikes. No need to be passive-aggressive, its simple human tendency.
So glad to hear you say that, I remember the amount of apprehension you had to them
TL;DR: Only the first paragraph for anyone who was not quoted.
I understand that as well, but I know who Arbiter is and I am not a Halo fan. They might make him sweet, I am not disputing that.
I don’t understand why we’re going critical on this early version of Season 3. It’s like TJ Combo all over again. But I know IG will be reading and hearing feedback so either they know what isn’t finished yet or some comments will bring to light some other issues.
I look forward to the RKosmik rips in the future, lol
Noticed that too, it may seem like we are being nit-picky but by today’s standards most developers higher people that are detail oriented, just saying. Why evolve more and more in the graphics department, physics, lighting, textures etc in the game industry but leave out natural repercussions of someone’s feet in a puddle splashing appropriately. I think it is lazy or just unfinished but if my boss tells me to upload something to show the world and I left details like that out, it would annoy my boss for the scale of what it is wouldn’t it?
Also I’m wondering why is this Korean girl talking like a valley girl from some stupid high school poor-little -rich girl type teeny bopper show?
IG and MS had many months even before they announced Season 3 to fix all these things we are pointing out. I don’t know what Maximillian is doing with them but supposedly this huge KI fan isn’t catching these important details. My sister that doesn’t even know what Killer Instinct is could’ve stopped everyone in their tracks as they were making these mistakes to correct them before moving along within the development cycle…
The thing is they’re not “mistakes”. Just look at the Kim wu threads, the reaction has been more than positive, so you can’t really act like they missed something super obvious or imply that max is a fake fan.
Some of you are saying that we dont like the kim wu face because she looks realistic or is trying to emulate real korean facial features. Thats not my issue at all. I just feel it looks OFF, inhuman, strange. It doesn’t look too realistic and adjusted to true human standards, quite the opposite, it doesnt feel human at all.
Perhaps because she was raised in exactly this type of setting? Not every ethnic Korean is raised in the cherry blossom-laden temple that people seemed to want.
I’m actually not crazily in love with her personality either, but it seems to me they’re being intentionally parodic/hammy about it. There’s been more than a few references to “Big Trouble in Little China” in terms of both her stage and personality, so I think that to a certain extent that’s what they were going for. Yes, her lines and attitude sound campy - they’re supposed to be. Your mileage may vary on whether you like that or not though, and I do understand that. Some people want KI to be all serious, all the time, but if you let yourself just have fun with it (as the devs obviously are), you might find that you actually like Kim.
Please be honest here, you know no matter what a lot of people will just gush because it is KI news. Don’t kid yourself. Like a yes man, many fans will say it is great just because it is a new announcement and it is something new altogether.
The issue with the face is the lighting and shading. It looks like her face is dirty and her cheeks are shallow that’s what the issue is.
Okay, now look every where else on the internet not a KI forum where most people will be biased and love everything about the game and overlook its issues. The general public whether it be on youtube, reddit, or review sites tend to notice her face first and how odd it looks.
To be fair…It’s pretty bad what they say, Examples are “KI is dead” “Ki Friggin sucks” without any reasoning nor providing feedback like we do. It’s Especially apparent on youtube and other review sites… I Guessing they are Mostly trolls and haters…
That’s why the forum is safe haven for me
Those aren’t the majority. Those are just random trolls. Even then, look at Max’s channel which is full of usually nice people. There are complaints on Kim’s face.
