I feel like S3 is setting the game up for universal appeal.
Combo Assist, amazing looking stages, all the classic characters, an increasingly flexible combo system, stark diversity between all characters, PC port, etc.
It’s probably too soon to pass judgment on the wisdom of a PC port. I do think it’s naive beyond reason to think that it didn’t sap resources from other things. That’s not to say we would have more stages if not for the PC port, but I think it factors into the decision making as well. I can imagine introducing the game on the PC platform, where high end users will want to really up the graphics probably helped them decide to focus on the lighting to make the game look better. And I can’t say it wasn’t exactly the right thing to do. If the playing population on PC really explodes it will all be worth it. Remember, people who are new to the game are going o be getting 21 stages with terrific lighting.
No, I don’t play Killer Instinct. I’ve been keeping up with the game since it came out, though. I’ve seen all the trailers, I watch tons of videos/streams, and I even watched (most) of the Killer Instinct Cup. I even own the Season 2 soundtrack. But no, I don’t play the game (I’m hoping to get it on Windows 10, though).
Anyway, I don’t think making the game an Xbox One exclusive is a marketing shenanigan. I mean, they own the IP… of course it’s going to be exclusive to their platforms (Xbox, Windows). PC might/can be considered a marketing shenanigan, though. But I think it’s more than that. If the game is already active, good. But PC means even more activity, which means even more players, which means they make more money, which means better things for KI. Potential content in the future, etc.
Basically this. It seems that they are trying to take KI to the next level in terms of popularity – which is mostly a good thing. Bigger community, more people get to play, they will probably make more money, and more. The bad thing is just that some things might have to take a hit (like stages) for this to happen.
Seriously guys, I think it’s best to wait to when March comes to see what ACTUALLY happens. And even if that really is proven true, there are plenty of other things to look forward to (new lighting, characters, balence changes, PC port etc).
Did you miss the fourteen posts where Rukari confirmed it, said they knew it would prompt chaos, and got kind of testy with everyone who questioned him? Again, maybe it’s not important to you, but a lot of us didn’t care about the PC port or the lighting and wanted the old characters back.
Whoa whoa! I hope my responses weren’t coming off as testy! Never that. Just know that people are looking for a glimmer of light in the darkness shrouding this news, so I wanted to make sure everything came off super clear, is all.
Nobody, since they all could’ve just bought an Xbox One by now already?
I mean, I get it: there’s dumb politicking involved. People really don’t like Microsoft this generation for basically trying to transition into a friendlier version of Steam, Sony locked down basically every other fighter in response to Microsoft making KI, and there’s always a group of PC gamers who don’t want to buy another gaming machine because everything should run on their main rig. And then there are the stick/hitbox players who’d have to buy an expensive accessory because MS would rather make using 360 sticks hard and port the entire friggen video game, and I have more sympathy for those guys because the money and/or hassle really starts to add up by that point. The port is good for getting a bunch of people on-board who were mostly being fickle and peddling their wrong politics about not wanting to own a 'Bone.
I get that the port helps the community – or at least, it friggen well better – but I’m not sure how much this helps Microsoft, and if we are losing out on content for the sake of the port, then I’m certain that this is a net negative for me.
I reiterate: looking at the product that SFV became, that June story mode would have to be phenomenal to back up this idea that SFV had a MKX-scale budget.
Yeah, I know dude. For what it’s worth the stages aren’t a huge deal to me, either. We don’t know either way what the overall content offering, let alone the value proposition for season 3, is going to look like, so it’s a bit early to overreact – and even if the low-content route is the way it goes, you probably won’t see me making much noise about it. But there’s just a moral point in here, a subdued injustice to this whole PC port rationale that makes something inside me want to scream.
Holy ■■■■. I should remember to log on and check the ne threads more often, so I don’t have to get through 350 posts. Its like forum homework .
A lot of the folks aren’t realizing how much effort is going to S3. A PC port and whole new lighting (for 17 stages * 18 characters) plus guest characters, new mechanics, rebalancing of 18 characters for said mechanics. That’s a lot of work for a span of 1 year. And if stages are what I have to give up for all of that, I’m ok with it. Sure its sad that a few characters won’t have a specific stage for themselves, but much like Ultimates, I can hope for them to be added later, when S3 has completed its release of all characters.
And I don’t mean a Community Fund. @rukizzel has said as much
So this means that IF there are more stages coming, we get them at a later time by paying full price for S3. Or, if you want to go down the conspiracy road, it could also mean that they develop stages later and charge for it, which circumvents the sell you “again” aspect because it wasn’t sold a first time. (Personally, I doubt IG does this, its just a scenario much like the ones presented after Shago’s Ultimate reveal).
Lastly, 5 more days until the MS event. Can’t we all just adjust our bunched-up panties until then and wait for further news? Since this reaction was expected, I’m keen on seeing what IG has planned to respond.
People need to calm the ■■■■ down. I’m sure they’ll explain the 3 stages thing. IG hasn’t let us down with anything once. Stop being so ■■■■ pessimistic. The graphics/lighting updates look fantastic.
Guess you can say I’m a very “see to believe” type of person. Too many times have I believed from text that this and that was going to happen just for the result to be the opposite. If this actually happens, I will gladly take my words back.
But this still isn’t stopping my hype for S3 nonetheless
