Am I the only one who gets upset thinking about a sequel? I mean this game has a huge new single player mode and multiplayer mode coming out! The game is nowhere near dead and I’d love them to keep adding to it! I really don’t want to have to start all over with a new Ki.
I’d love them to release the DE. Then take a year break and make season four take place maybe a few years later.
What about the characters?
I really think they are done releasing content.
I think / hope “Season 4” will not be a REAL “season 4”, but instead will be a seasonal-cycle of updates, new game-modes, new content packs, bug fixes, and finalizing game balance, mechanics, and overall look and feel.
I think they should keep this game going, but slowly replace it all but in name over time. It’ll still be KI, but will evolve over time into something new and completely different. So, graphics, characters, gameplay, etc. may come and go, as the story warrants, but the game itself will continue. In other words, there will be a sequel, but it won’t be called KI2, for example - it’ll just be an evolved continuation of this game. ![]()
I think they should move on. I hate the business model for this game. They should put YEARS into development and do it right. Marvel vs capcom 3 has not been patched for half a decade. It is still in tournaments. It is up to us THE COMMUNITY to keep it alive even if there isn’t new content.
I honestly feel like after a Season 4 (I want Eyedol, dammit!!) They should start on a new KI. There’s a lot of stuff with the current KI the devs keep saying they want to add in, such as ultimates, but going back and reworking the game would take lot of time and effort they don’t have.
Starting from scratch they could build the game we all want from the ground up, so they could accomodate for all the things they want to do but can’t due to the current game’s code. Better character models, ultimates, more fantastical designs for characters, etc, etc.
…but first, they need to bring Eyedol back. ![]()
its the type of business plan that can keep going without making a game to reuse assets and try to reimagine them for a new plan. if they have the micro-transactions to not only stay functioning, but also still profit from it, and still make their (most) of their customers happy. the are obviously doing something right IMO.
my issue is, i feel like their business plan is kinda outdated and i hope they redo some stuff for a better experience for their microtransaction plans.
TBH, I was just thinking about making to thread asking about why so many people are against the Idea of a sequel. Honestly, I’m one of those people who would rather have a sequel some time in the future. Now I’m not saying it should end at season 3 or even a hypothetical season 4. The seasonal approach for this game has helped keep interest in the game, but I feel development for this iteration of KI has to come to an end sooner or later. Can you imagine the strain it will be trying to perfectly balance 50+ characters!
With a sequel, it gives the devs more opportunities to start anew without the limitations caused by the previous title (such as issues coding, time, resources etc) allowing it to finally become the AAA status game it deserves. Not to mention improvements in things like visuals, features in gameplay, animations etc.
I just don’t see what’s the problem in having an official sequel. It CAN’T only be due to the paranoia of the possibility of your favorite character not making it to the sequel.
I dont want the sequel just yet, mainly because my potato barely runs this KI, and I dont wanna be left in dust ;___;
They have kept it going for a while. I wouldn’t really mind if it kept going but I want a sequel at some point. This game will always be here no matter what the sequel is like.
I think some folks wanting a sequal only want one because of the character designs, graphics, etc.
Personally I’d not mind if KI kept on going. Considering the way this game is being released there’s no reason they cannot keep on adding stuff.
I love this game to death, but even I think that 3 seasons is enough. Here’s my reason why.
With every new season comes a balance update and a bunch of new matchups to learn. And as we’ve seen in the community lately, Season 3 has been splitting it apart, just like S2. We have enough characters/stages/mechanics that we just let the game grow on its own and stop ■■■■■■■ some people off. I love S3, but I won’t deny that this is an issue.
Now does that mean I want them to stop making content for the game? No. If we are going to get a sequel, it’ll probably be at least 3 years before then, maybe even until the next-gen consoles like Smash Bros. does things. So I think that updating the game over time at a slower, more streamlined pace is probably a better idea. Release maybe a character or two here and there, maybe a new mode at some point, maybe some colors and balance updates every once in a while.
I imagine I’m not being very clear to some readers, so here’s what I’m generally saying. We don’t need an entire new season of full cast rebalance, new mechanics, a set of 8 characters and more giant new modes. We just need a little bit of continuous love every now and then.
Only problem is: even if they make a new balance patch the sequal will still have a big balance change regaurdless. There’s really nothing you can do that will make the community upset about it.
Personally I’d just hate to have a sequal and none of the cast in this game (minus the guests) not return for the sequal.
You’ll have to get use to balance changes because that will always happen.
What I’m saying is there’s a difference between the balance patches we see at the beginning o a season and the patches we see in the middle. You understand what I mean?
Also, no one is going to say “IG ruined the game” about a KI sequel because…well, they would have made the game in the first place (hopefully).
remember: to keep a game community growing you need content. the most important thing right now should be getting more paying players, and wouldn’t new seasons with characters, etc do that?
I agree keep this game going, a sequel would ruin the development of this game and have so many characters be removed for no reason, this game keeps gaining momentum and I dont want it to stop due to a sequel that has no reason to exist.
Well, it’s already a great game so while a sequel would “ruin” the development of this game, that’s not really saying much.
It would ruin the development of the meta for the characters in this game. This game has so much undiscovered crap in it due to its lack of popularity it sickens me, it would be a real shame seeing its meta crawl to a screeching halt similar to how SFxT did even though that game has insane amounts of depth lying in unused characters to this day. To keep it simple a new game would kill this games meta and community, everyone would jump ship for a most likely lesser game, lets keep using the season model to make KI keep growing instead of using a sequel as a cash in.
Yeah. Plus you guys still owe us ultimate and no mercies.
Metagame talk is pointless, a sequel would be years away.
The game is suffering because of its lack of popularity but a sequel would be a cash-in. Hmm.
I personally wouldn’t say that the “add more seasons” people have made any sort of point yet.
