Issues of unusual or unintended inputs since S3?

You are not delusional. I am having the same issues and am trying to pinpoint why it’s happening. I think it might have to do with the input buffering system. I’m getting the “input errors” during linkers, and during the neutral. During linkers for example, I hit a medium linker and I get a heavy instead, even though I am aware that I just tapped the button, not held it. Depending on the character, I get issues either with the kicks or the punch buttons, never both at the same time.

Wulfs jumping hp becomes jumping hk half the time for me. Which loses air to air versus just about everything.

I feel nothing wrong over here…Soooooo… does that make you guys delusional or does that make me a Fanboy?

EDIT: Actually I have this problem with tusk. But It may be me being bad at the game.

I’ve noticed it too

As I touched on my own suggestions thread, the game’s direction is becoming lost in a quagmire of overlapping input schemes, simplified command inputs and ill-thought-out priorities regarding ‘accessibility’ versus rewarding gameplay.

KI needs to throw the baby pandering into its own, exclusive mode (like MvC3’s “Simple Mode”) and refine the controls / command inputs as necessary in line with genre standards that have been set for decades, for the sake of the good of the overall game and its future.

You cannot please everyone; and in an attempt to lure the kiddie dollar, the game is running the real risk of ruining the itself beyond redress. If you have one leg in the casual’s court and another in the hardcore’s, you end up ■■■■■■■ on the product.

Well that explains my issues. Have been frustratingly mashing shadow axe kick and it only works on occasion. Have also felt on occasion that my light axe kicks have been broken as medium axe kicks as Kim Wu. Switched controllers because of it. Wondering if there was something wrong with it. Know the RB isn’t reliable and would stop functioning or doing attacks on its own but am sure it was just the controller on that end.

I’ve had this one fighting against a Fulgore. Swore I got the correct strength but says I did another.

Hi, I can’t exactly post a video since Xbox overlay won’t let me record, but here’s the strange input I get:

In training mode with jago, if I antiair with c.HP, and wiggle my control stick forward, I will get a “free” fireball. If I check the inputs, it shows only a single press of heavy punch and the qcf motion, yet I get both the c.HP and the heavy endokuken. Similar things happen with glacius c.lp into light puddle punch with just the qcf motion and no additional presses of lp.

In game I have had it happen as well, though I can’t reproduce it as faithfully in the heat of battle.

Fighting game players call this “negative edge”. Releasing a button is the same as pressing it where performing a special move in concerned.

This is completely normal behavior and has been in the game since Season 1.

Yup! Since S3 came out a LOT of odd things have happened. I thought Sadira was glitched as I couldn’t get a Recluse Linker of any Punch Manual. As it turns out Negative Edge was to blame and I know have to hold the punch button down, while pressing a kick button to make it work.

I also notice a LOT of issues where I do the motions for one move but get another move entirely. Example: QCF to get Blade Demon and Shadow Web Cling comes out.

I’ve lost several fights after attempting an Ultra and get some random ender instead.

What I am experiencing seems like negative edge, especially during the linkers, hence why I mentioned the input buffering system. It has alot of slack it seems, and I just pinpointed what my issue with Jago is. I’m getting the heavy linker after a medium manual kick linked into a medium windkick linker. Seems like the double tap is causing the game to believe I’m holding the button down. ■■■■ this negative edge is worse than I remember.

KI has negative edge? Really? I never knew this! I use the heck out of it in MK X..it works really good in their combo system. But I didnt think KI had it since there is no option to turn it on or off.

Ill check it out and see if I can work it into my game!

Is it only for special moves like in MKX?

I’ve never fully understood negative edge… I know what it is, but I’ve never been quite sure where I can apply it.

That being said, there have been numerous instances (even prior to S3) where, with Aganos, after activating instinct, he throws out a random long-range s.HK when I want to do something else with the peacemaker (like swinging it or throwing it). It happens, I’d guess maybe 50% of the time, and always ruins my intended setups.

I’m having trouble doing shadow DP on tusk. Mainly because F+MP keeps coming out instead.

I’m no expert on the matter but I might take a shot at it since I’ve tried some stuff in the lab lately.
With Jago for example you can input the foolowing sequence
down - press MK - down back - back - release MK
to get cr.MK into medium Wind Kick, so it’s some sort of shortcut, I guess.
But yeah, more often than not it seems to cause unwanted results.

It is indeed a sort of shortcut and seen in plenty of fighters that require constant special and normal canceling. KI has always had negative edge, that I’m aware of, but this time around regardless of what Keits says there was a change to the input buffering system. The window seems to have been widened and button presses are staying active longer. Whether it was intentional or unintentional is the question, not if it is happening. If they want to choose to ignore that it is a problem, like the majority of the things they ignore, that’s fine too, but don’t be pretending that it is not happening.

At the very least they should allow a toggle to turn off negative edge if they can’t figure out what they bugged out this time.

I was doing Rash’s 1.2.1.2 combo last night, the punch one, and it would end with him auto doing the shadow ram. I was definitely not making him do it. Combo assist was off.

I’m having issues with Maya. Her combos drop on certain characters (mostly female) when doing leap kick and shadow leap kick. Everything feels really unforgiving in regards to ticing as well. Overall, I like her redesign, but there’s a bit of polish needed before I can really break through with her.

Yep.

You can also input a special by releasing a charged button. Make sure you are tapping not holding.

@TheKeits I believe that is intentional correct? Charged buttons? I know it’s been around a while or is that just the negative edge? Or the same thing? I know I use it to confirm off lights it’s a great tool once you learn how to have it work for your favor. Helps me do complex combo’s focusing only on directional inputs.

Maybe it’s due to my playing on PC but the only time I get missed specials is when I allow the joystick to flick. Otherwise it just doesn’t happen. If it is a specific platform issue, that also needs to be taken into consideration.

To anyone in this thread, if you have had the issue, X1 or PC? Is it replicatable? Is it online? Or offline? It is hard to look into an issue off heresay. Double check your buffers. I can say timing is a huge factor in getting what you want. Here is a practice string for everyone.

Jago: Cr Mk > Medium Laser Sword opener > Cr Medium Manual > Light Laser sword linker. If you get a medium wind kick linker, your inputs were too early. If you cannot at all get a light laser sword linker even with waiting until the last active frame of Cr MK manual, then there may be an issue. Just give it a try this is a consistent string I’ve used to train myself.
