Apparently a lot of the developers that had been involved with KI Season One from Double Helix are involved with this title. What do you guys think?
The lack of proper motion inputs, not sure Iâm gonna like the game too much. KI devs or not.
The overall presentation just gives me âFunction vs Functionâ vibes. Almost Battle of the Grid levels of quality.
One never knows. Hopefully it will be good, if not great.
Idk, to me its boils down to the question of âDoes Invincible really need a fighting game?â
To my knowledge the superheroes in that universe are mainly parodies of already existing heroes, with Invincible and OmniMan being the only real powerhouses. Everyone else just comes off like a jobber who only exists just to be killed off (Hence the first episode where the Justice Leauge clones died.)
Put it this way, its like One Punch Man in that aspect, the hero is ridiculously overpowered while everyone else is just⊠kinda there. Flash in the pan type villains and heroes. Which when they eventually had an offical fighting game, it pretty much bombed.
Granted you could argue its because of generic Anime Fighter syndrome ala Naruto Ninja Storm or Jump Force, but I feel the popularity isnt as anticipated as weâre lead to believe. And the low budget presentation and the rumored simplified controls thus far looks very concerning from an outsiderâs point of view.
(I liked Battle for the Grid, but even I wasnt too happy when the controls were essentially dumbed down to an insulting level to appeal to casuals, who were probably gonna drop the game anyways regardless of how easy was to get into. Defeating the purpose of âsimplified controlsâ.)
Look I love fighting games, and I dabbled in many recent ones as of late. But this to me just feels a bit overkill. A true open world adventure game in the Invincible universe wouldâve been much cooler of a concept, in the vein of SpiderMan by insomniac. Or Rocksteadyâs Arkham series.
(Credit where its due, I guess it does make sense that since Amazon bought out the KI devs of S1, when they finally had a new IP to show off they took the advantage to have them build it, so that itself makes sense. But I worry its not gonna be the âHyped Game of the Yearâ as some are already touting it as. Giving off the impression of false hope.)
Iâd love to be proven wrong. But right now, even with Battle Beast or Immortal being added, Im just not feeling it.
Beyond that, there isnt many characters I quote âwant to seeâ as again most of them either died before they could do anything spectacular in the show, or are just dollar store versions of characters weâve already seen elsewhere.
Frankly, putting Invincible in Injustice 3 or Omniman in MK1 was probably as interesting as they could do with those characters, fighting game wise. Since those rosters were filled with characters and heroes who werenât so one dimensional.
Thats my 2 cents. Frankly we shouldâve just gotten a sequel to Killer Instinct 2013 already. ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ
Um, Battlebeast is no jobber, plus the comics has a ton of characters who are powerhouses. While itâs true Invincible parodies the DC extended universe, it is its own distinct thing with very real consequences, which was pretty much highlighted in the first episode. Whereas DC and Marvel kind of glorifies the life of a superhero, âInvincibleâ shows the terrifying, gruesome and traumatizing reality of that idea. Granted, there was kind of something like that explored with âThe Boysâ, but that was more the cynical and gross exploration of power, greed, abuse and corruption than about superheroes per se. To a certain extent, the idea of being able to play as either Rex, Mark, Nolan or Battlebeast in a fighting game format kind of makes sense, although tbh I would have liked it better as an open-world adventure game or something along those lines like the Arkham games like you said. Not too sure how to feel about there being no command inputs for special moves tbh; Iâm generally the sort of guy who would play games based on how they look, play and feel, so I canât really comment on the last two points. It doesnât look bad, but there is a certain weightlessness that I kind of canât help feel takes away from the brutal impact of these super-powered fights imo(?). It does look low budget tbh, but not the worst fighting game Iâve ever seen so far.
Definitely.
Now if they made it a Invincible vs. The Boys game, maybe that couldâve been a little more interesting since youâd have two shows to pull from to make a large roster, almost a MVC of sorts.
But like I said, Im just not feeling it with this game. And I have a feeling the hype is gonna die down hella quick once people realize the characters movesets are extremely simplified. If you master a characters moves quickly and with little difficulty thats gonna become boring, again as Battle for the Grid has with their gameplay system.
That would be cool admittedly, but the âInvincibleâ comics have a ton of characters. While it would be kind of fun to see âInvincibleâ crossed over with âThe Boysâ, the latterâs kind of obscene and arguably doesnât entirely fit with the former, especially with characters such as Love Sausage and Tek Knight lol. That being said, a video game based on âThe Boysâ would be pretty fun, either as a fighting game or as something like the Arkham games, where you are investigating corrupt superheroes and using whatever intel you gain to help you navigate very dangerous waters, either blackmailing or taking out said-supes in very distinct ways, with every supe being their own distinct encounter/puzzle/boss/whatever.
