But I don’t understand why MS didn’t make new Xbox smash bros like SSB and Allstars Battle Royale??? It’s better than we get another guests in one game!

I still think she was a poor choice for several reasons. First off, we’ve already filled the “sexy secret agent” trope with Orchid, Joanna would just be stepping on her toes. Second, Perfect Dark is probably NEVER going to be relevant again, the original was a gem but the 360 version was utter garbage. There’s practically no way they would ever make another PD game after that train wreck, especially in this over-saturated FPS market. The same could be said for Battletoads and Rash but frankly I think Battletoads has a much higher chance of being rebooted than Perfect Dark does.
Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Perfect Dark and I always will but frankly she’s not a suitable choice in this game, right now at least.

That didn’t stop sonic, Tomb raider, Resident evil and plenty of more games that had a bad sequel from coming back.
With all the girl-power thing going on this is the perfect time to bring her back.

she’s just as suitable as any of the guests that we have plus “that guy we can’t mention” , maybe even more for reasons stated by Wanda. I know people want their Eyedol back instead but this is just voicing our wishful thinking by some of us who think Joanna was a better choice compared to what we getting. Nothing is gonna change.

[/quote]She’s an undercover operative trying to infiltrate an enemy location and extract intel, close enough. My opinion still stands, she’s not relevant or distinctive enough to warrant the guest spot anymore. Mind you, when guests were still just pipe dream I had suggested Joanna myself but after seeing how it played out, I no longer think she’s a valid choice.

[/quote]Yeah an honor bound ice alien vs another honor bound alien that looks and plays nothing like the first, if Joanna was a secret agent squirrel that wouldn’t look so similar maybe I’d be more inclined to agree with you. The only similarities between the two you named is the blanket term “honor bound” really.
While Joanna would indeed look different from Orchid, I don’t think they would be different enough to warrant taking up a roster spot that could be used by another returning/original/more relevant guest.
Again this is all my opinion but honestly I’d be disappointed if they wasted roster space with her at this point. Maybe in a Hypothetical season 4 if the game lasts that long but right now, no freakin’ way.
This thread was created before they went all crazy with the guests. We are just here lamenting she didn’t get a spot and why she was the “better” choice for some of us.
My guess is that they are too far ahead in development and already know who’s is making it into the game and who’s not no matter what we say here.

Creativity my friend. I’m sure the people at IG are creative enough to make them distinctive. Heck! a couple of people here came up with great ideas.
I’m not trying to change your opinion ( actually respect it). I’m just sharing my pipe dreams with think-alike fans.
Just throwing this out there:
I’m the camp of letting IG do whatever they want and surprise me with something interesting gameplay wise. Original or returning character does not mean is going to be automatically good, it all depends on their creative team to come up with something memorable or relatable (<-- reason why guest characters are a thing). Like I said, I know why people want new characters, but I don’t see how having a conversation on why she makes sense to be in this game as opposed to Rash, Arber and ***** is going to break the game or make it unplayable somehow. I find this guest-hating to be an overreaction by the “idea” of being a guest and get blinded by it to judge that character base on what they bring to the table.
Just check the time, it’s 4am. Sorry if anything I said doesn’t make sense. I’m just passioned.

JD and Orchid are nothing alike. They’re spies and that’s as far as that goes, Orchid uses fire cats, energy batons and smoke grenades, flips around and poses like a cheerleader and beats people with her batons like this is drumline Instinct…
JD uses guns and spy tech and that’s really about it. I’m not seeing the logic here, they’re about as night and day as Glacius and the Arbiter. Unless you want to stretch it by saying they wear tight uniforms there’s really not much to go on.
JD would likely be a gun wielding zoner with gadgets to go along with it, you’re better off comparing her to the Arbiter really.

As fans of the KI series I think we have all got to come to terms with the fact that if we are going to get a season 4 then we will have some characters that will be a little more simular to one and another. We can’t keep having differnt things… and do we really want everything to be so random?
Season 1 fighters are actually quite simular in the way they play and I’m happy with Jago shadow jago level of “difference” in terms of game play and as long as orchid and joanna were that different I’d be very happy.
For me joanna and orchid would be perfect together. One is a spy / freedom fighter and the other is a super agent / spy.
Joanna could have assisted orchid SO WELL once she was found out by Ultra tech. I mean Orchid would still need intelegence right? Maybe that would come from the carington institute?
After Aria was exposed Ultra techs security would be at a perfect agent level of impenetrability and once the institute found out about the weapons programs, AI and alien tech (that could have been linked to the skedar) I think they would be only to happy to aproch ochid to see what she knows.
As for being current. The only reason why another PD hasn’t been made is because Rare are so good at creating new things rather than a 0.5 to each game they make.
I dont see why MS wouldnt bring perfect dark back and after letting 343 and Iron galaxy share tech and assets for arbiter I’d like to see them do the same for halo5 and PD2 in terms of textures models and gsme engine. Seems to make sense for internal MS studios to share technologies.
All in all Joanna fitted better and sold better than battle toads so although I understand Rash was the front runner for Rare Replay I still think Joanna would have been the BEST choice for KI.
Imo she fits SO well I don’t even see her as a guest.

Well we’ve had 2 male guests I’d say there’s a strong possibility that if there is a 3Rd and 4th guest, one of them will be female. We only have 2 confirmed girls this season

I finished Dark Agent Solo and Koop in PDZ and everyone that played the Game knows that this game is pretty stupid hard. I also finished Perfect Agent on N64 when i was 19 ■■■■■ im getting old) and played through the Remaster about 10 times 
She is the best female videogame character of all time imo.

If there were any character from the rare vault I’d like to see actually become part of KI lore it’s JD, even though I doubt that would actually happen. Also this idea that KI is becoming smash bros is kind of ridiculous for two reasons.
1 if you think about it KI IS the smash bros of pop culture references, so if carefully selected guest wouldn’t necessarily go against that. JD is female James Bond and Rash is a tmnt knock off. We all know Arbiter and “he who shall not be named” are just MS plugins, the true guests but the former mentioned could potentially become staple characters, seriously would we complain this much if the original KI did this? I really doubt it.
2 smash bros has more to it than being a mash up, it’s also a now up to 8 player game, it’s a party game. KI is far from that and honestly I don’t think MS would benefit from making some separate fighting game that just rips off smash bros, PS All Stars was total garbage, let’s not wish for that on MS.
I’m very picky when it comes to guests, I don’t like tacky stuff like star wars characters in soul calibur or even Heihachi and that weird orange guy in SC2 but I did happen to think Link fit like a glove and was a nice addition, same with Kratos and Ezio even though I don’t really like the latter two.
It just seems like as soon as KI became tourney viable people forget what made KI fun and unique which was the idea of pitting a torch knockoff against a Jason and the Argonauts skeleton or a boxer, a dinosaur etc. They forget how cool it was to see final fight characters became part of Street Fighter lore or unlocking gouki in an xmen game (lol using sf2 sprites no less).
The way I see it IG/MS have been pretty careful at selecting these guest characters, there’s a reason the chief didn’t make it instead of the Arbiter, Why Rash makes references to Conker and Banjo in his accessory set. Look at the “put scorpion in the game thread” you got word from a dev himself saying they’d rather have Goro or someone who can contribute something new to this game as far as mechanics go and someone that fits the game better than scorpion would. I would’ve taken Johnny Cage simply because that guy is “mr.bloodsport” van damme knockoff but that’s just me.
I know guest characters have gotten out of hand these past couple of generations, most I’m not a huge fan of (looking at you MKX) but KI and it’s guests characters remind me of a time where cameos were cool and fun but I also appreciate that these guest characters are crafted well enough to respect KI’s system and their original game at the same time I haven’t seen that happen since Street Fighter Alpha. So if JD makes it or doesn’t, I know it’ll be a decision that was made consciously and not done just for the sake of cashing in.
I would’ve killed to have seen a Streets of Rage character become relevant again through one of Sega’s fighting games at the time.
