Gears of War 4: Official Thread

You can scrap cards based on their rarity and type for a certain number of scrap. Just press X to open up the scrap option.

Rarities (from best to least value):

 • Legendary
 • Epic
 • Rare
 • Common

Types (from best to least value):

 • Characters
 • Weapons Skins
 • Horde Class Specialties
 • Multiplayer Bounties
 • Horde Bounties

You get a range of scrap dependent on the rarity and type so you can scrap any of these cards for 1/4 - 1/5 of its value. Ideally you should scrap duplicates of cards you don’t need like bounties. I believe Rare Bounties of any type gives you 20 Scrap each. Whereas a Weapon Skin or Character gives you 150 Scrap for an Epic, but cannot be duplicated as far as I know.

Mechanics similar to GoW 3 with the feeling of GoW UE (mixed with any new stuff, fine by me). So
far people say it’s similar to GoW 2 which is not my fave talking in vs. Well, I can’t say that because I haven’t played enough multiplayer in that game but I didn’t like it much in movement and other things.
I can say that I’m finding this new gnasher horrible regarding to the delay it has plus the weird movement. Yeah, the movement is “smooth” but coming off the walls and shooting feels strange. Also it’s not like you usually run like crazy around the map in Gears, I don’t like that at all. Feels like a mix of CoD Uncharted of Wars xP (whish they would change the DBNO animation, is confusing, I prefer the old ones).
After playing more multiplayer I’ll say if I change my mind but if I’m not convinced so far I really doubt it =\

PS: campaing starts “weird” but eventually gets better. That’s a good one =)

No what i mean is that i’ve got 0 scraps and i don’t know how to get them.

So… I’m surprised no one talking about this.

I’m not sure if I should exciting or disappointed…

Honestly, I much rather have this system since it allows the people without patience and more money than they know what do with it fund a steady stream of new maps. I prefer it over purchasing every DLC map myself. I’m in no hurry, but I appreciate the impatient ones who are.

Go to any card you’d wish to scrap, press X and select the option to destroy it. You will get the allotted amount of scrap depending on the card.

Yup, I have heard of this but I think it’s too early to say much besides it being an official project instead of simply a rumor. According to Rod, though, this may be an extension to the universe because movie adaptations often fail because of the material that only games can produce.

Pretty badass though.

Well, as @oDragonSpirit just stated, she may have to purchase packs not because she is impatient, but because she doesn’t have time to grind like the majority of us. This also doesn’t apply to people with more money, it just means there is a sense of desperation because you feel like you won’t get anything since you don’t have time. It’s exploitation really.

A good step in the right direction but at the bare minimum. 500 less still doesn’t actually answer the problem of it being overpriced. Honestly, I think 2500 or even 3000 at most is suitable considering the content of your loot. I do like that the credits have been “buffed” in general though, at least they hear us out enough to clear up the frustration and deal with it accordingly. Good job on their end.

No one has to purchase anything. If you don’t have time, you just don’t. It does beg the question, if you don’t have much time to play, why concern yourself with it anyway? Life is considerably more important and your money meant for more necessary things. Hopefully, as an adult, a person can avoid regretting unnecessary purchases out of a misplaced sense of desperation.

The only thing that bugs me about the horde grinding is that it feels like they’ve locked half the fun of the mode behind it. I see all these cool buff cards that I have ready for me to use and combine but I’m still about 20hrs of grinding away from even being able to use half of them. I currently have 12hrs of scout played and I’m only at level 3 with it!

I pulled Commando Dom (Epic/purple rarity) out of my starting packs, so anything from here on out is a bonus.

Dom’s always been my favorite character, and I absolutely LOVE the Commando Dom skin! It’s bringing back memories of the comic books and the Aspho Fields novel.

I felt a bit offensive when you said “Hopefully, as an adult, a person can avoid regretting unnecessary purchases out of a misplaced sense of desperation”. I don’t consider myself desperate. I love Gears, and I want to collect goodies from it. Those are the reasons I play it. It is unfortunate that I don’t have much free time like some people to grind the whole time. I have school and job. Even with a limited amount of time I get, I still want to play game and get cool things from it. However, the micro-transaction, like Tiger said, is pretty hard to get. That’s why I said I could see myself spending $25 to get 5 Elite packs instead of trying to level up till level 200 or something since it is impossible for me.

With all due respect, this is the exact type of mentality that just lets things be the way they are. If I pay $100 for a game that I have been apart of for 10 years, each without an extensive use of microtransactions, don’t I have a right to speak out against what I dislike opposed to just saying, “oh well”. In fact, as you just posted, because of people like me who spoke out against a broken system, the developers addressed it. Still not reasonable, but they did change something at the bare minimum.

Because I am a gamer, a majority of us are gamers. It’s a hobby and a part of our life by now. I concern myself with issues like these because when I grew up microtransactions and paid DLC never existed. Perhaps that is a generation of gaming you may enjoy but it is one I will always resent. If I have to pay on top of my $100-60 that I already dished out to feel satisfied because the leveling system is broken, then clearly something is wrong and should be carefully evaluated.

Exactly. Maybe not everyone cares that much because they aren’t as invested into games as some of us, but for a good handful of us getting characters, skins, boosters, etc. is part of the experience. When said experience is locked behind one of the most excruciating credit systems, then paying seems justified. It’s a classic exploitation of gamers.

Could have been done like many other games who manage a credit system and microtransactions well like Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2. You get a great amount of coins per game but, if you want to make it even easier you can choose to spend far less money for a greater amount of coins instead of $24.99 for 5 packs… 5.

With all due respect, no it isn’t. You can thank increasing development costs, years of the loss leader model, and game pirating for forcing them to move to alternate forms of recuperating expenses. No one is saying you can’t voice displeasure, but you aren’t suggesting viable alternatives either.

It actually is, the recent change in their credit system is evident of this change. Even if it isn’t much though, at least there were enough people actually saying something opposed to just taking it.

A viable suggestion has been mentioned already. in simpler terms, make the credit system less grindy and the rewards more favorable. Keep the microtransactions there just make them an option and not a necessity to feel fufilled.

Anyway, I’ve exhausted this issue. Feel free to continue commenting but I’m done talking about this. If you enjoy paying or unfair microtransactions that’s cool, but I won’t.

I don’t pay for any of it. I’m in no hurry to get any of it, and if I don’t, well then big whoop. What I don’t do either is create some pretense that I’m being victimized when I know full well as an adult that I have the capacity to make informed decisions about my purchases against my priorities so that I don’t regret my purchases, nor do I feel desperation to over extend myself for something I ultimately don’t need because my priorities are in check.

I like the updates to the credits, but this isn’t enough. I get the microtransactions need to make money, but there’s no reason I’m still a few hundred credits short after playing for about six hours today. They need to at least double the payout to make things bearable. In social, you make 30-70 credits depending on performance and whether or not you win. Even with the 500 credits/5 level ups, it takes too long. Even after all that effort, you might end up with five crappy emblems. The game needs to either guarantee at least one character skin with each elite pack, or it needs to be cheaper so people can earn 2-3 packs for a few hours of play.

As a follow up to my raging at this multiplayer customization crap, the game needs Locust too. It isn’t fair that Kim, Dom/zombie Dom, and whoever else that may be dead make it as playable characters. It isn’t fair to bring back classic COG for fans of the older games, but completely ignore the Locust.

I feel you man, it would be nice to include more characters in general. I mean I wonder why they made Gears but didn’t include Carmine. Also, why not add Locusts just for the variety?

I mean the game just came out though, hopefully we see them down the line.
There is a Carmine, he dies during the village attack when a plane crashes into him.

But yeah some Locust skins would be welcomed. It’s not like they don’t already have the models in the game from the flashback missions.
