Fight stick questions

So my birthday is approaching and my wife wants to get me a fighstick. Problem is, I’ve only used controller for my fighters. Id definitely use it for other games like Marvel or SFV. Also, I’m pretty clueless on where to start looking, if I should build my own, or what’s a decent starting stick. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, dudes.

I bought a Qanba Q4 a few years ago and still love it. The only significant modding was replacing the spring in the joystick for more tension (and replacing worn out buttons).

Recently got a Razer Atrox, and it’s really nice too. Needs a 2lb spring (IMO) but other than that it’s great, and the case design is really easy for part swapping, also cable/stuff storage. It’s pretty neat.

Both work without 3rd party software.

I would suggest getting a qanba product for a great stick at a normal price, the Hori RAP line, Razer atrox, or mad catz sticks for top of the line quality at a higher price.

@MDMMORNING definitely a nice stick and great recommendation. My only stipulation is that I would prefer a stick that’s compatible with both PS4/X1 if that’s possible. Seeing that I’d want to get into SFV and still carry on into KI. Edit: Just realized what I want doesn’t exist yet. Most likely go with the Razer or Hori.

@LemonHunter38 dude, those Mad Catz sticks are sick, definitely an option. Thanks.

Oh, yeah, platforms… Atrox is probably the safer bet, but I’ve heard nothing but great things about HORI. They’re just a bit pricey.

you could also buy a brook adapter to swap between the two platforms, its known for being easy to use and not having any input lag

Are you playing on Xbone or PC?

Most likely sticking with my Elite controller for X1 and transitioning to stick with PS4/PC.

Hmm good suggestion. Will most likely get a stick PS4/PC compat then purchase a brook adapter for future X1 fighters. Thanks, dude.

I got a HORI Real Arcade Pro Hayabusa about a 6 months ago. It is quite nice. Apparently also customizable but I haven’t yet found the need to.

You will suck hard while playing with a fightstick for a good amount of time. It’s super hard to get used to it. Playing with a fightstick literally teleported me back to the days of MK9 in 2011 when I felt it was an accomplishment to just do a fireball. What I did is I tried my best to dedicate at least a half hour every day to playing against the computer with my fightstick. Took about a month. But honestly, worth it (I am still better with pad though)

Thanks for the insight. The thing is, I’m barely starting out in SF, so I figured I would learn alongside a new fight stick.
I’m prepared to get my butt spanked in ranked for a while, but it’ll make every win that much more satisfying. Leaning towards the Hori RAP 4.

A good friend of mine swears by Hitbox pads. Rather than having a stick, it has up, down, left, right input buttons. It allows you to do charge moves far more easily than a stick ever could, and while it has a steeper learning curve than a fight stick it, it has real potential to make you a better player.

Since you haven’t yet developed any stick habits you are in a better position than most to pick it up

You could buy a hori fighting commander fightpad and a brooks converter for ps4 to xbox one

Could buy a xbox one fight stick and biy a hori fighting commander 4 and have someone mod it into the atrox and have a fightstick work on both consoles

Shoryuken forums tech talk is all you need
