Eagle Trailer revealed

@rukizzel, I have to ask

Why did you choose this videos?

They are extremelly bad examples of a character potential. A win by chip damage? Shadow moves mid combo which doesn’t combo?

I feel it’s a really really un-hype way to showcase Eagle. I’m not asking for ā€œday 99 secret techā€, but at least give us a video which is not played by someone who doesn’t play KI regularly, or by the CPU.

I can’t see this making a good impression in anyone, pro or casual player

You are absolutely right in that regard, and we usually do just run CPU v CPU for these vids (since I gave up long ago AND play regularly). It all comes down to how best can you get the content captured. In this case it was the CPU.

Didn’t even realize I put up the chip win. Had a few recorded but got the ugly one.

When it boils down to it, though, general gameplay better serves a different audience, which is why we’re comfortable rolling with it.

Those in-depth breakdowns (which are amazing productions in their own right) truly only serve a small, but important, portion of the KI pop.

The content isn’t long-lasting, and not really meant to generate hype on the same scale as a trailer - which goes through extreme scrutiny. To put it bluntly, gameplay videos are used in a time where people are hurrying up to wait for the final release. Most know if they will buy at this point. Sure there are a few who may still be on the edge of deciding, but again, practically speaking, the numbers skew to a more relaxed trend.

I’m not asking for this(it would be wellcome of course), I was more asking for, dunno, something like KI4life vs Storm Shin Hisako showcase.

A regular match, but played by good players to show us a bit of Eagle’s potential.

To be fair, but also don’t really want to speak on behalf of Storm, KI4Life, Finch and the rest that played her early, they had all of perhaps a few hours the night before to learn her. And i think one of them said they were making the mistake of trying to play Shin Hisako like Hisako.

Its kinda funny to think of it this way, but putting a new character in the hands of someone as competitive as those two might not be the best way to showcase. But hell if it wasn’t memorable.

Sounds 100% like Storm. Lol.

Oh yeah that was great! However, that was more of a great coincidence than anything. everyone was in town. Build was there. Good to go. Not the same as this situation and not easy to create.

WHere are these videos you are talking about? I dont see anything on this thread uploaded besides the trailer.

They’re on KI’s Youtube channel.

I think the team might be underestimating the value of an exciting gameplay match for generating buzz. It’s not only for the hardcore people who have already decided on buying the character. It’s for everyone to get interested.

After seeing the trailer for Eagle, and now this gameplay that doesn’t showcase much of his tools, I’m not too hyped for him. I don’t really know what he does, or how he could look cool while doing it. And I imagine most people who see this, whether they are pro players or casual button mashers, would agree.

Obviously the Keits-esque gameplay breakdowns are important, but they are for a more niche audience. But a general ā€œwatch how cool this isā€ match with Eagle is super valuable for every type of player, and I don’t really feel these did the job. In fact, I kind of think they did the opposite of the job… I kind of nodded off halfway through this one, and I am currently not interested in buying the character.

The only thing that sells people on fighting game content is whether they can do (or watch people do) cool shi.t. They’ll buy a character they weren’t interested in if they see a cool combo or setup. If I see promotional material for the game that makes the character look boring, then I lose interest very fast, even if the character is actually cool.

I can agree with that, its more exciting when you see gameplay showing off what cool stuff they can do. It makes you get all twitchy and you start dreaming about how you can make use of all those tools.

The gameplay was a little stale, but still I’m looking forward to him.

I agree with your point generally and do wish the Eagle gameplay was a little more advanced. Having said that, people keep talking about the videos as if they are bad, but the thumbs up to thumbs down ratio on YouTube is 20:1. So it seems like people are appreciating them.

I feel that that’s not because the gameplay is interesting per se. I feel that the video gets likes or people talk about it… because there is nothing more to talk about

We get a good new, KI is going to be avaible in Stream. And there are a lot of questions to answer about it, but we are going… to wait… a… lot…

The lack of a meaningful amount of info when we get news is just… dissapointing. The balance changes video is aimed to be released this friday… so it MAY not come in time. And even if it comes in time, we are getting it… 5 days before the patch… Instead of getting it 2-3 weeks ago to have a good discussion around it, having even more people around the forums to discuss it, not only when Eagle is released.

I’m not easy to dissapoint, I love KI and I try to not be grumpy about stuff. But the silence from MS regarding stuff that WE KNOW is going to happen is just incredible. Getting over and over and over ā€œstay tunedā€ as predeterminated answer is not funny from a long time.

I’m not saying ā€œGIVE US MORE SECRET INFOā€, I just think a more regular schedule of releasing news, and some ā€œbehind the scenesā€ content, like Devs speaking about how they decided to create Kilgore/Shinsako/Eagle gameplay, how they got inspired for their appearance, and stuff like that.

Things that can be just written, whitout any need of making a video or special event, just a small textual stream from time to time.

Dunno, maybe I’m just venting it out, I’m just dissapointed about how the info is handled

I dunno, I was able to glean a good deal of information and am already thinking up scenarios for him. Specifically two moves that were shown of:

  1. Command flip/teleport
  • Shadow Arrow Loose

1 - The command flip/teleport has me curious of a few things. It looks like he’s able to have followups off of it and they look like jumping normals but he also has Skyfall out of the move and the linker version shows him doing a crossup. Now I’m thinking of a couple of things with this. Is this an actual teleport with invincibility or is it just a movement option special? Are the followups out of it just him recovering in the air and doing a normal, thus making Skyfall an air command normal, or is it pre-determined followups like Sammamish? Is there a way to cancel this teleport back onto the ground without having to throw out a move? If so, thoughts of Decapre shenanigans start flowing through my head which leads me to my second point.

2 - Shadow Arrow Loose looks like it A) can fire regardless of how many arrows Eagle has and B) can be aimed in whatever direction he wants. In the Fulgore match he’s shown loosing the arrows straight up and they come down right next to him. This gets my noggin joggin on whether or not he’s able to do the Shadow off of HKD (which I wonder if he’ll have a HKD ender or if this might be better setup off sweep) and then do a command dash/teleport that either stays in front of goes behind. Since his Skyfall also ground bounces, I wonder if he’ll have a way to convert it into a recapture (Robo-haha maybe?)

The other things I can’t wait to see is what Robo-haha can do. Looks like they have a dive with limited tracking and causes a knockdown of sorts and a sonic-screech that maybe staggers? None of the matches had it landing that move. It seems Robo-haha also recovers at a pretty reasonable rate so it won’t be too dangerous for him to throw it out there. It also looks like Robo-haha is done by a single button press because every time it’d attack, Eagle was shown whiffing a normal (could be some CPU thing, who knows). One other thing to note is that teleport is groundbounce ender and slide is wallbounce ender. I wonder what arrow ender does? It doesn’t look like a resource ender, maybe a meter ender?

There’s other things to take note of in both gameplay vids but this post is already getting long. Regardless, there’s a lot of neat stuff to see in these simple gameplay vids and I hope I’m close to the mark on some of these observations!

Just a quick shout out to @rukizzel… if you can let us know what TIME Eagle will be released ASAP, that would be a GREAT help to me. I’m in work on that day and quite prepared to take the time off work to play all day, so as much notice as possible would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance if this can be done.
Love you guys x

Do not underestimate casuals logic.

If gameplay is too boring - they wont get hooked.

If gameplay is too flashy/high level - they will get scared of difficulty.

I’m finding it hard to get hyped for him and anything KI based lately. As said above, things are announced then radio silence for months at a time.
They wont say of that’s the game complete or even a snippet if there is more to come.

Maybe I’ve just been a bit spoilt by injustice 2.

NRS did not even announce end of MKX development cycle yet :joy:

Nobody will ever do this because its hype euthanasia.

Trailer was weak to me. You don’t just put a story bit without anything exciting. Let’s look at Hisako’s trailer. You have story and a lot of gameplay. Hisako has a counter? Sweet. A command grab that sucks you in? See? What doy ou have for Eagle? He shoots arrows…What I would’ve done is show Eagle fighting Aria a bit in his retro at the start. Shoot some arrows and show how it was used. He runs out and loses. Glacius rescues him and insert the intro. Eagle collects his arrows and then does his stuff.

I’m talking about trailers for the characters and the overall content for the game and what’s coming for it. MK XL is doa since injustice 2 came out
