Darkest Dungeon

For those of you who are fans of games like XCOM and Dark Souls, I think it’s worth your time to check out Darkest Dungeon. It’s a game I have been watching closely for a few years, and it’s the best indie game I’ve ever experienced. It’s been on Steam for a little while (and I’ve had access for a long time as a Kickstarter backer), but it just released on PS4 and the PSVita on 9/27, and I think it deserves as much recognition as possible.

It’s a challenging medieval dungeon crawl which requires you to train and control a stable of flawed heroes to drive corruption and monsters from your ancestral estate to right the wrongs of your family.

Men and women will die suddenly and horribly in battle against corrupt men and twisted monstrosities, or be driven insane, accumulating both good and bad traits which will have an effect on how they fight and adventure. If a hero becomes too stressed, they will die of a heart attack!

For $20-$25, I think you’ll get far more than your money’s worth out of it. Check it out and I’d love to share stories and answer questions about it!

Do you know of it will come to xbox?

I like the artwork direction…but Im not a fan of the old Final fantasy / Chrono Trigger game play style.

Cannot agree more. I’ve spent so many hours in the Dankest Dungeon. The atmosphere is amazing and the gameplay is superb. Had this since Steam Early Access over a year ago and always pick it up when I’m feeling a little adventurous.

I have no idea. It’d be cool if it does, and I would happily purchase another copy. I sent them a tweet asking if it could ever happen but I doubt we’ll hear anything about it until they’re ready to discuss it either way.

I’m enjoying playing it through again, and having it on a handheld device really feels like I can enjoy it whenever I want. I also got to experience some new Town Events I hadn’t seen before, and try out the Antiquarian hero (really weak in combat but earns you more money on a mission) who I hadn’t seen before, either.

Managed to down the first boss character last night, too.

@TheKeits I know you’ve played The Gungeon, I feel like this is a game you’d enjoy too, if you haven’t already played it!

Darkest Dungeon is getting its first DLC in “Early 2017”, called “The Crimson Court!”

Not too much has been revealed yet but it looks to be a vampire themed expansion, and they have announced that there will be a new character class released as part of the DLC.

I can’t wait to hear more!

In case anyone happens to be interested, I’m trying a little “fanfic” type project related to Darkest Dungeon. I’m using Twitter to tell a story about the adventures of a character of my favorite Darkest Dungeon class, the Leper, and will chronicle it with appropriate screenshots as I go.

Right now he is approaching the Hamlet (the town hub where you rest and work on heroes between dungeon runs) so it is all freeform text. I have completed an in-game run with the character, and I’ll have screenshot tweets soon.

The twitter is @LeoricLeper in case you would like to check it out!

Are you still doing this Twitter thing?
[Edit] never mind. I just looked you up on Twitter. Very well written and amusing.

Just took a break from XCOM2 and saw DD on sale on steam. I remembered this thread, so I guess that I will be spending my time playing this title over the next few weeks.

Yeah, I’m still working on it, just sporadically now that fall releases have hit, and I also have other projects and activities. Maybe I’ll add to it this weekend!

Feel free to ask me for tips or suggestions, or ask any questions you might have once you start the game
