Guts from the berserk anime would be such a good retro variant.
A bit over-dressed compared to old-school (and recent for that matter) Tusk, but I’m sure he’d be a great choice.
Guts’s ultra greatsword would be a nice accessory nonetheless.
I know my Dark Souls 2 character certainly enjoys a similar weapon/look.

See, I think it would have to be based on his early age self from the anime, because Tusk’s sword isn’t quite so… BIG.
How do you use that sword with a shield? Damn!!!
I know Guts isn’t the most famous of the “massive sword” users in the anime/gaming world, but I’d rather him than Cloud. 
Revealing this will pretty much doom me to suffering a Cloud costume. I’m prepared for it.

A cape would be a good idea. I mean, with the idea of him being a back-facing character, I would assume he would probably have several accessories that would make his back more interesting, such as a cape, some sort of sword harness, maybe a backpack.
