I was going to try a full ultra (nothing personal against the poor guy, you know) and then this happened, i just can’t stop laughing every time i see it xD
Any clues on what could have happened?

This must be a bug. Nothing game breaking or anything but a bug that can be fixed.
Gargos be like: NOPE! You ain’t getting off that easy!

It’s a spacing bug. If they cross your hitbox for that specific hit, it whiffs. I made a short video explaining it. It’s spacing specific when you ultra close to a side of the stage. Hope it gets fixed soon.
