Cheif thunder redesign

To be honest im thinking of doing my own redesign of cheif thunder , it’ll be based on the original design except ill be culturally sensitive and i need some advice from native Americans who are fans for the series. ( i do like the design from Killer instinct (2013) but that design is more like a reinvention than a redesign ) any thoughts ?

Hey there! Welcome to the KI Community!

I say go for it! My advice is to look up some of the symbolism of Native American face and body paints, if not more about the Nez Perce culture:

That being said, one thing you should keep in mind whenever you are designing a character, whether it’s a werewolf, whether it’s a dinosaur or a creature from mythology, etc. is to make sure the design itself is able to stand out and is both identifiable and distinguishable enough to be distinctly yours. While much kudos should be given to both Double Helix and Iron Galaxy for consulting with the Nez Perce tribe in redesigning Thunder’s costumes to make them more culturally appropriate, there is the inherent risk of making a character too stereotypical in the design, if not a complete embrace of the Pan-Native American image of fringe that’s been popularized throughout much of media. Granted, fringe was part of the Nez Perce clothing style, but at the same time, think of ways to make your version standout. KI1 Thunder in some ways looked more punk-inspired than based on any existing tribe per se, although there were some tribes that had mohawks or had worn roaches on the tops of their heads to mimic the appearance of a mohawk.

I don’t think the last one is a roach, but it looked like a cool headdress imo.

My advice is, try to find a good balance between the old and the new.

I hope this helps.
