In your opinion, what is the best order to watch the Star Wars movies in (considering there are now 9 movies)? I haven’t seen the most recent 3 and my wife hasn’t seen any of them in their entirety. I was thinking of a modified “Machete” order:
- Rouge One
- Episode IV: A New Hope
- Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
- Episode II: Attack of the Clones
- Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
- Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
- Episode VII: The Force Awakens
- Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
The “Machete” order omits episode 1 entirely considering it doesn’t add anything (good) to the overall story.
I would watch in order of release date…the same way everyone that watched them as they released in theaters.
Episode 1 is great… its a hell of a lot better than attack of the clones… but there is NO Stars Wars bad enough to omit. Ep1 adds plenty good to the overall story.
I would have to agree with order of release date, especially in regards to the big twist in Empire of Vader being Luke’s father. Episode 3 would ruin that twist if you never saw Star Wars before. I really wish Lucas would have made it a point to leave any mention of Vader out of the prequel trilogy just for that reason.

I have to disagree with the watch based on release date due to spoiling the Vader twist. I haven’t watched a single movie yet and still know about it. Same for many others. It’s so iconic and ingrained into pop culture that it’s hard to not know about it. I understand the idea but just not for that particular reason.
