If you are crumbling under pressure that isn’t Fulgore’s fault, it’s your own.
Well, genuinely not having fun sounds like a big problem.
I don’t know why your wins don’t feel “earned” when you steamroll people. If you manage to avoid being pressured, you reap the rewards of good spin speed, and you can use that to decimate somebody. Why is that not earned? You overcame the weakness in that match, so you deserve to access the tools that come with that.
This really sounds like something bigger than Fulgore nerfs to me. You may need to step back a bit and either try a different character (you might find a hidden gem you like), or take a break from the game (everybody needs a break when the game isn’t fun, and all games eventually stop being fun if you play them too much).
I’m not sure I agree. I’ve been clear that I think some of the things they changed about Fulgore were not necessary (ie, I would agree with some of your balance criticism). We might agree on the severity of it (it doesn’t make Fulgore unplayable or bottom 5), but the criticism itself is not the problem here. We can agree on some points, but then we have to decide what to do with that information. Maybe trying to convince the devs that they messed up is one approach, but it won’t really lead to happiness - even if they end up listening to you or others, you will still feel empty because they might not buff the thing you were hoping for, or they might not go far enough with the buffs in your opinion. I’ve seen this with many, many players over many characters since S2 dropped… it’s just not a road that ends in happiness, my friend.
This doesn’t sound like it’s Fulgore related. It sounds like you’re more in that awkward plateau of upper mid level skill where everyone is ether too easy or too hard for you and you’re blaming the character for it.
Only thing I can tell you now is that it’s all up to you. Whether you want to give it another shot, or play a different character. If you do the former, we will be glad to help you break down this character and such. Posting sets and matches in the “Replay and Analysis” thread could help us pinpoint your struggle with the character, and maybe find new things.
However, if you pick the latter, we will help you to the best of our abilities to become great with the character you choose.
But, in the end, it’s all up to you. Best of luck to you.
The crumbling to pressure line is a uniquely a fulgore problem due to his meter. If your opponent pressures the hell out of you, you don’t get to shadow (move or counter) out, you just have to block and continue to lose spin speed. Granted, he has DP, (light DP anyway…) but the risk/reward is a light DP with no follow up vs them baiting it and you taking a full combo (also destroying spin speed in addition to big damage). Then, after you get beat up a bit, your instinct does literally nothing to mitigate these problems.
I don’t care what any of you think of me, but seriously, I implore you - if you get paired with a fulgore see what happens if you almost recklessly throw yourself at him. He can’t shadow counter you and you’ll prevent his reactor from increasing even if he blocks (Jago f hk, wulf ragged edge, omen f hp, etc go nuts you’re NOT giving meter like you are with other characters and you’re building it for yourself!) Due to his low damage you’ll win out during trades too. He really is just vortex now, and if you’re up in his face the vortex will never start.
I will remember this, and record the matches I have with Fulgore players. I will record them and tag you. Maybe we can figure something out.
Please do, you might be surprised how well it works.
Ok! Next time I will. I’ll just keep them pressured, and see if they can do something. You know, that’s kind of a way of learning too. “One man’s failure could be another man’s breakthrough.” Watching people playing Kim and not doing so well actually helped me level up my own game, because I saw what not to get hit by/do, and worked upon that.
So watching a Fulgore struggle could be a breakthrough point for you, where you realize how you could level yourself up.
We got this dude! No worries.
Well like I said, they can DP, but you’re risking taking a DP with no follow up vs full combo or at least block pressure that builds you meter while slowing his.
I’m going to pop back in to say that this is emphatically, and I really do mean emphatically, not true. You want to know what being helpless on defense feels like, play Sadira. Or Aganos with no chunks. Or TJ. Or heck, even run with Hisako for a bit, and see how many gaps counter really has. I think you playing Fulgore has given you an unrealistic expectation about the utility of meter on defense. I blow up shadow counters with wild abandon even with my pockets, and with some of the nastier pressure options in the game (Aria shenanigans, Hisako), it’s literally not even an option. Shadow counters are a great tool; people should use them more. But I can 100% guarantee you that if you are getting blown up consistently on defense, lack of meter is not your root cause.
And Fulgore isn’t just a vortex. He’s a mobile character with a grounded overhead, good lows, and ridiculous throw range. You can still play him very effectively straight up, without ever having to rely on a teleport or fireball.
