To arms! Maximilian's call for a new KI

New info has come along sense then now. The velociraptors, ar enow close to the size of utahraptor

Heck the indoraptor is bigger than Utah. I think that sense Sense the accessories for the stalker, we should keep feathers as an accessory unit.

though in the film goers defense, the JP films aren’t made to educate. Plus they had to use DNA from existing animals to fill in the blanks.

though I’d like to see them explore parts of the lore like Wyvern X.

Well, no, but one of the cool things about the movie was that it was decently “realistic” in the ways the dinosaurs were portrayed, with proportions and behaviors that mapped pretty well with what scientists thought of those things at the time. The Jurassic Park staff requesting copies of all of Ostrum’s papers on deinonychus is a pretty cool detail when you think about it!

The movie and book absolutely took artistic licenses (the deinonchyus were made into “velociraptors” because Crichton thought it sounded "more dramatic, and T-Rex probably wasn’t especially agile), but the small nods to more realistic and believable dinosaurs was definitely a part of its charm and what made it work well.

The velociraptor is the little blue dino on the right in your photo - the purple one is labeled ‘Jurassic Park “Velociraptor”’, as in, the ones seen in the movie.

The original Jurassic Park, in my opinion, did a good job of **attempting ** to have some science in the film. That’s all I really ask - is that they make an attempt. Most movies are absolute trash when it comes to science and very few scientifically accurate movies would make terrific blockbusters. My son is in a kick where he is enjoying watching the old X-Files tv show because he can laugh at it and I think he learns a bit about history by talking to his mom and me about it. But that show is inane as far as science. The writers just put words together because they liked the way it sounded, like a Japanese T-shirt (or anime/rpg title). Even the movie where Jeff Goldblum plays Jim Watson, the co-discover of DNA is not especially scientifically or historically accurate (how’s that for a segue?)

Anyway, the point is if they are representing science they are never going to get it right. But as long as they make a little effort that’s okay with me. No comment on JP2-5…

Edit: as a side note that that probably doesn’t interest anyone but me. My work for the last decade or so has been primarily about educating people on how to conduct risk assessments for genetically engineered organisms. They are not especially risky in most cases and the methods for conducting a risk assessment are pretty universally agreed. But the thing that gets said to me the most - everywhere in the world from USA to South Africa to Pakistan is “Life finds a way.” Jurassic Park is basically a Frankenstein story, and did such a good job of convincing people that it had the science right that they think genetic engineering works the way it does in the movie. It has made my life more difficult, but probably suggests that the film was effective…

Yes they are, and the JP Raptor is slightly taller than the Utahraptor as you can see on the right.

FYI: my favorite films in JP is the original, Jurassic World and fallen kingdom.
The original film introduced me to the Raptor which is my favorite dinosaur and Fallen Kingdom was because of the Raptor and T-rex team up. Even Jeff was hyped sense the Rex is his favorite too.

the jurassic park book was awesome, lol it was the rated R version of the movie that we never got. the raptors were indeed smaller, but extremely vicious little ■■■■■■■■ im also displeased that in the book, we had robert muldoon be the guy who saves everybody while completely loaded up on booze, but in the movie he dies to a “raptor” deinonychus. i was always wanting that version to be told, as well as hammond dying an agonizing death to compys lol

I like the movie better then the book. The book was… really mean spirited. I like Hammond having to live with the consequences of his actions and trying to make it right over him just… dying. There are fates far worse than death.

of course its mean spirited, they’re bringing back an extinct species to make billions off of and are seen as nothing more than a park attraction. then you got nature doing what it does best as a consequence of those actions.

Haha. Much as I love (and totally had a hand in!) freewheeling, we should probably bring the discussion back to KI and its future and things people would like to see. Let’s try and keep things at least tangentially on topic

i dont know what you speak of sir, we are merely discussing the origins of riptor lol. her blood soaked past is quite inconvenient i know in a family park, but it is what it is >_>

…maybe I shouldn’t have brought up the idea of a bird-stalker.

Haha. Nah, that was a totally valid topic for conversation. For myself I thought the feather accessories for Riptor were really cool and looked great. I wouldn’t want it to go much further than that with the “birdification” of the character - I think the current artist drawings for dromaesaurs look pretty wack in general :man_shrugging:t5:

Expanded on a bit of my thoughts regarding my hopes for the next KI on Twitter today. Since Twitter is a manifestly terrible place to have any kind of substantive talk, figured I’d put it here as well.

One thing that I wished for this current version of KI, was continued balance updates. For me, getting a new balance patch, was almost just as exciting as new content itself. I remember being excited to come home from work and try out a new patch to see how it changed my fav characters.

The general lack of new balance patches for this game is sort of a bummer. Some characters are too strong. Some characters are too weak.

@STORM179 has already pointed out some of the over nuttiness to Shago. For me, Shago’s biggest problem is how easy it is for him to get Surge. I’ve played some top Shagos and they literally had unlimited Surge throughout the entire match. It’s cool to be nutty, as Spinal and Fulgore, are both incredibly powerful once they have resources, but those characters have to work for them. Shago… you pressure him… he gets surge. You block his attacks, he gets surge. He hits you, he gets surge. For me, this lessons the value of his Instinct…

On the flip side, Sadira remains one of the most heavily nerfed characters and hardly anything buffed to offset her weaknesses. I was chatting with Kalyspo on Twitter and he straight up said, that S3 Sadira is trash. He went on to say that much of what made her usable had nothing to do with her core tool set, but with abusing glitches such as JCing Autos out of Instinct, JCing Manuals in Instinct (was removed in S2), and other glitches.

Her Combo Trait (to be honest) is hardly useful as most Sadira mains were already very good at knocking people into the air. Its things like this that (for me) left a bad taste in my mouth.

In the next KI, I would like to see continued support and balance updates as long as the game remains popular.

season 3 is why i dropped sadie all together, i was working way too hard and burning myself out to score victories in combat. so, i went with hisako instead who ironically i had such a hard time learning in the beginning

in some cases i think rash can be worse than shago. i at least know what i can do to counter him, but rash? christ. they can just keep me permanently blocking with tongue spam and just doing wrecking ball non stop lol so i gotta work really really hard to get him. shago’s overbearing, but rash can smother you to death. id rather get a root canal than fight a tough rash

KI has valid criticisms that can be leveled against it, but I don’t think being under-balanced or patched is one of them. From Infil’s site, KI had 35 unique patches over its lifetime, including two final rounds of balance after Eagle was added. The game got a lot of balancing over its years of life; it had to end at some point. :man_shrugging:t5:

I think a pretty reasonable argument could be made that this happened with this KI. I actually think they were adding stuff pretty well after KI ceased to be “conventionally” popular. The game got a lot of love pretty well after it ceased to be much of a tournament staple.

They did wind up buffing her damage after Eagle was added, but for me the bigger issue was how they kept changing her to make her more juggle-focused. I’m pretty weird in that while I like FG’s, I find combos and combo execution pretty uninteresting as mechanics. They kept reducing the grounded damage she could reliably get and basically forced you into playing her as a crazy juggler, and I just wasn’t there for it. I wish they’d just toned down her crazy instinct shenanigans and left it mostly at that - all the extra juggle crap made me like her less and less.

The main trick to fighting Rash is recognizing that you can’t get to him, not unless he wants you to. Rash is a character who resolves neutral on his terms, and trying to force an approach will just leave you open to his incredible buttons or put yourself at a range where he gets really ambiguous stuff off of his tongue.

Rash is negative after all tongue approaches, so if you ever block it, it is your turn. With Hisako, cr.MP will beat any option he does after tongue unless he hits it at an angle that drops him behind you, so just get used to challenging after he tries to yolo his way into you. The same is basically true for wrecking ball.

Rash is an incredibly good character (he’s definitely Top 5), but the stuff that makes him good isn’t really how most pro star Rashes actually play the character. Just be patient and let them hang themselves - the vast majority of them will murder themselves with unsafe approaches if you let them.

thanks for the advice man, you see that is something i wasnt really trying that you just put into my mind. quit chasing the fool around trying to kill him. a very simple idea, and one that im going to put into practice in my future matches against one. i tend to be pretty aggressive as a player to where my patience isnt where it should be. cool, way cool. ill be giving this a try when i fire up KI again (as well as your tips on the tongue/wrecking ball punishes with cr.MP)

As far as I can tell, the state of Sadira has been highly subject to the changes in direction in the game over its lifetime. She herself hasn’t had many changes compared to most other characters, but the state of the overall game mechanics (enders, first-hit damage, juggles, etc) as well as her relative nuttiness compared to the rest of an incresingly nutty cast have done a lot to throw her position around the ladder.

I think there could be more done to balance characters with crazy mixups by making them easier to break. They balanced Shago’s crazy with low damage. For intermediate and high level players that’s fine - you know that you are never down and out against Shago you just need to capitalize on the times you get lucky and you should be able to outdamage him. But this has two side effects. 1. It means Shago smothering new players with low damage mixups takes a LOOOOONG time. So new players not only get dunked, it’s a protracted experience. Ouch. Second, lots of Shago okay becomes these one chance mix ups into short combos with recapture. Followed by a combination of runaway and mixup. It’s a frustrating style of play.

Rash is higher damage but they at least made his moves more distinguishable and therefore easier to break than much of the cast. But some of his obvious moves (like his light auto combos or his fist pound recapture) have tight break windows which - in combination with his mixup game tends to make people feel trapped. Again, the characters aren’t OP but they don’t tend to be good ambassadors for the gameplay, in my opinion.

I don’t think a long, drawn out matches are too much of an issue with Shago if there’s already a big divide in skill between the two players. He can get pretty good damage if he hasn’t spent a lot of his meter on Surge and/or if the opponent isn’t good at breaking, and both will be true in many cases for matches with beginning players.
