The AI in Shadow Lords can be frustrating for a mediocre player

So I just tried him on “normal” and got pretty far on the first try. Removed all but one of his buffs. Even defeated him…then he resurrected…wtf. Got destroyed. Some how he got a dash through Sabrewulf move???and did his supreme ultra ender on me.

My ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ this is fun and I want the run back! However I can see this version of “normal” might be a bit much for some people. I’m going to try and beat him before the patch though.

I tried “challenge” as well didn’t even make a dent in Gargos. :joy: 6 hits lifebar was gone. My expression was just like Max’s lol!

Yeah I almost forgot about the crazy dashing.

I have been playing KI since day 1. I am no PRO player neither, but I can hold my own. I feel that the difficulty on challenging is too hard. I get destroyed by not only Gargos, but the basic fighters on the globe. I am beyond frustrated after 5 playthroughs I still cant beat the mode. I had all my players healthy and full of awesome perks and still get destroyed. I simply want to unlock the Astral Plane, but its extremely frustrating.

First off I am not bashing your skill at the game. The thing that you need to remember is fighting the AI is alot different than a human. For example, I use Riptor, and the AI will get hit by the HP flame about 80 % of the time. Now at the same time it only falls for the tail file cross up about 20%. Most of the time the AI will DP in the middle of the move.

I fought Boss Gargos with Omen and he got hit with the slide every time I did it. You just need to find the weak spots in the AI, and use them.

I personally feel we need a 4th difficulty (Beginner), a lot of people are starting KI with this mode. Learning this modes mechanics on top of the basic game mechanics is just too much to ask.
it should be beatable without guardians(of course easier with them), and the gem rewards should be super low.
I wouldn’t even play the ending cut scene in this mode (like old fighting games where you wouldn’t see arcade endings on easy). You just get something like
“ARIA: simulation over, I hope you are prepared for the real thing now”

The AI does appear to block less often when you do mix/cross ups, at least in my experience. they don’t even need to be good ones just any sort of mix up you throw in a block string will get them eventually. Throw mixups are useless against the AI though…

Also my average run of shadow lords takes 2 hours or less, and I stop to read the lore. The first run literally takes twice as long due to learning menus and mechanics.

This. I wall splat into medium or heavy normal and they lock out every single time. That 1 time I grab though, they tech it. Very weird.

At least they always try to tech, so characters with command grabs have a field day.

That is what normal mode is. It says it “for players new to fighting games”

It’s a bit too challenging for beginners though, like imagine it for people that play against the AI on very easy, or easy only, (these people exist). Those AI’s just randomly throw punches and don’t even try to hit you if I recall correctly. More people than you would think simply want that experience, and I say the more the merrier. As a person who loves the lore and the atmosphere of the game I don’t want to shun anyone from playing KI.

I get that it can be challenging for people just starring out. It was for some of us as well. What changed for us was that we started to build up an inventory of items and guardians. Here is the best tip that I can give.

Start a game on normal, picking your best people. Then fight a for 2 or 3 days. Next skip to the first Omen fight “Omen fights drop nice things” . Use all 3 of your characters. Now skip to the next omen fight and repeat. After you have fought a 2 or 3 Omens, then restart the game, and repeat. Doing this for 30 -60 min will have given you enough gems to purchase an epic pack of guardians, and possibly and item pack.

I think some people are forgetting that this mode is meant to be used with items and guardians, and not to be won with nothing.

When people say they want to beat the mode without using anything, they are defeating the whole point the the Shadow Lords mode in the first place. Now I don’t think the rewards should be locked to the point that only a really great player can get them, but I don’t think thy should be so easy that someone who has never played can get them either.

I honestly think challenging should be normal and “normal” should be easy. Leaving Godlike to actually be the super-hardcore mode that’s nigh impossible to beat. That way there’s an easy peasy mode for people who just want to see the story and collect dossiers.

It kinda feels like all of the difficulties are one step to high.

What sucks is that I knock myself out of first on the leader board. It records your most current score, and not your highest.

Sorry, I had to rant about that.

I would support that fully, if they still keep the stage unlock behind challenge mode. I already unlocked again, but there should be something extra for beating challenge mode. Godlike has the achievement, so challenge mode can have the stage.

I do believe that normal mode should be set, so a better player could beat it with nothing. If good players still need items then the mode is to hard. Just like you say

Leave godlike the way it is. Challenging is too easy for some people;(soon to be me with how much I’ve been playing shadow lords) (hence why I suggested a 4th difficulty under normal).

WOW I didn’t know that, thats unfair, should be a thread on it’s own!

I don’t know about this, dude. Whenever I throw out a jumping slash it’s like I threw out a slow wind kick, they just block it and usually don’t bother to punish at even higher difficulties. Usually when I go for a neck cutter after making them block a plus button I get hit or thrown out of it. I can’t remember the last time I landed a tail flip mixup.

tbh, I’m deploying whenever I can, and abusing Riptor’s jump HP a lot.

Anyway, I picked up Astral Plane last night. What they’ve done with boss Gargos’s moveset is pretty awesome. I also enjoy everything else about the mode…except the actual fighting. I’m torn as to whether to keep going with Godlike. Man, I really wish they used Shadows AI.

It’s just a matter of if you like finding ways to game the AI or not.
I can’t stop laughing at how they just don’t block Omen, Orchid and Shago’s slide kicks ever; It’s a blast.
And of course the buffs the AI’s get keep it interesting, like when I go for a yo-lo slide kick and their armour regenerates just before it hits and I get rekt, and I just feel like “yeh I deserved that”
I’m also playing new characters in this mode so at the very least it’s a chance to practice their basic combos until IG adds shadow lab AIs which I hope they do.

The 2 things holding this mode back is the budget and the AI. Most cutscenes aren’t even voiced and more would be nice. The AI sucks. Not fun. Shadow AI or just let you choose a side as a mimic or hero and you play each other.

I recently tried it on normal, and I couldn’t beat a single Omen, because of spamming those bolts and the kicks.

Omg

Shadow AI in shadow lords would be absolutely insane.

Btw to whomever it may concern

I’m proudly low tier but I think it comes down to guardians consumables and your weakened Gargos powers. I found that if I had at least 2 perfect gold fractured wards and/or snakes I’m good if I have Gargos buffs weakened.

Or that I got lucky today lol
