Sharing or Keeping Tech (Setups, MUs, Strats, etc): When is it OK?

KSB winner Japan RET put his lab practice with Kim on Twitch, and runner up Ogty has a huge blog post on Arbiter setups and tips. Growing the community is also a noble cause, IMO.

It would be cool if the Shadow Lab was actually useful and you could search for people. Then I’d face the pro players shadow and learn from them but right now the Shadow Lab sucks. There is no way to sort through that whole thing and find specific people.

You can only find specific ppl on your friends list.

Tekken’s ghost mode was the best example of how this should work.

Or, for those that remember Vanilla VF4, the AI Mode was great, too.

You could actively train your AI as they were fighting if what they were doing was right or not, and it would learn and apply instantly.

If those aspects were implemented in KI, that would be great. Also, if the game could “compile” data based off of your actual gameplay with “X” chacater and have it readily available for other opponents to fight that would be good, too.

Well, you can go to the shadow leaderboards and search for high ranking/well known players.

But I agree with the general point that Shadow mode could really be improved with some better search tools. I think the mode has SO much potential and it could be developed a lot further. Even just speeding up the load times would make a huge difference. Maybe after the close of the season they will have some time to think about improving that interface etc. It’s always easy to discount the fact that they are basically balls to the wall through the entire development cycle - so all of these “nice to have” extras we suggest are not going to make it to the top of the list.

Heck, I don’t care - I’ll share my secret tech. Question is are you ready for it?

Okay, so here goes as Jago…

I got better tech. Laser sword from full screen. It confuses the opponent. This is your chance to strike. Taunt and let the opponent die of laughter. You win.

No no no… Full screen DP, on landing immediately laser sword. The DP is to show dominance and the height gained will broadcast your location to females. The immediate laser sword also only works properly if you make sound effects with your mouth. I favor a Vrrrrrrgggt sound myself for each ‘pass’ of the sword.

At this point the females should be impressed by your manly display and your opponent should feel demoralized and weakened. Use these few brief moments to beat your chest. Throw leaves in the air… Then walk-up throw.

Really guys tech is good even if you teach it 2 someone. Just take self credit for it because sooner or later someone will find it and call it there’s (Doesn’t really matter who finds it, but what matters is who’s doing it live on stream with thousands of ppl watching).

I think of how Japanese players go about doing things in their communities, especially for games that have been around like Vampire Savior, and ST.

To this day, most of those communities actually discuss things either in person, or on BBS threads… The reason they’re still ridiculously stronger players (aside from constant fighting) is communication.

Look at how quickly the Japanese KI scene not only grew, but became a threat in the US during EVO, just like when they started getting in on UMvC3. Sure, there are some guys who stream and show lab work, but I guarantee you they’re “think-tanking” it up while they’re getting bopped online and/or locally.

KI at this year’s EVO is probably going to get even more crazier than last year, considering there’s JP players who haven’t come out of the woodwork til S3, or maybe they were underground, and didn’t show face until KSB.
