And Gargos with no buffs on Challenging owned my team. He had like infinite instinct! I was like “was I just really bad or did he kick my ■■■?”
Well Gargos will always have a least 1 buff since you can only get rid of 4 of the 5.
But I know what you mean since the same thing happened to me. Got owned by Gargos even after I got rid of his regenerating health buff as well as 3 other buffs, he was still recovering health…weird.
I still enjoy the mode though and look forward to see what IG does to add to it.
I’ll second the notion of there being a jarring difficulty spike on Normal and Challenging. I felt like once I hit around day 7 or so, I was coming across a lot of higher ranked enemies. As I’m starting to get enough of a feel about how each mechanic works, I felt myself expending goods a bit too soon, so I didn’t get a prolonged feel as to how the long-term strategy of the mode can unfold. On the default starting run, I wasn’t happy having Kim Wu as one of my characters as I hadn’t come across an option to replace her yet.
I do like that guardians and goods carry over between runs like a Rougelike/lite, making me more willing to try different teams on new runs, and makes me feel like purchasing packs with Astral energy or KI Gold is worth doing since some items can’t disappear unless I make them.
One thing I’d like to see is an item counter that pops up when there are pre/post fight opportunities to trade, give, or wager goods. I may want to trade 10 “spirit essence” for part of a mission, but not if I can’t see how many I have in reserve first to see if it’s worth risking losing that if I can instead craft an item I may need later.
Overall, though, I’m quite happy with what they’re trying to do here. This feels like a Rougelite XCOM single player fighting mode, and I already feel some variation of this should be standard for future fighting games. I’m very impressed.
Okay so, @developers , after getting all but 1 of the achievements (50 daily rewards is a physical impossibility in the span I’ve had access, so that’s fine :P), I think it’s safe to say I love this mode. I’ve got a few little improvements I’d like to see.
-This one is spoilery, but you guys already know it.
So Gargos has a unique ending involving a doppelgänger of himself, which he Ultimately defeats to claim his throne. Awesome. My question is: Wouldn’t it make sense for this doppelgänger to be a Mimic, since the words mean basically the same thing? It would be more more friendly (and cool looking) than just using his Color 2.
-More frequent drops for Dossiers, perhaps? I’ve got 62% of them total, but sometimes it just feels like they aren’t dropping. I get the RNG Loot thing, but with more dossiers coming perhaps there could be additional alternative ways of unlocking them? Like how Mimic Skins can be unlocked by either defeating that Mimic OR defeating Gargos? I vote that Story missions should have a higher chance to drop story notes.
-Guest Mimics: We’ve yet to see any. I know they don’t play any role in the story, but I’d think using images from our own pop culture to wreak havoc and sow the seeds of discourse ala The Staypuffed Marshmallow Man would be a pretty wicked strategy for a demonic lord to use. Maybe special, fun little rare missions like “Arcade Burned Down” or “Mimics Infiltrate Comic Convention”.
-Seasonal/Holiday events! It’d be awesome to see the world map blanketed in snow, or to see pumpkin shaped chests or piñata tank chests. Maybe even unique Seasonal items like “Stuffed Ultra Turkey” with fun new effects, or even unique unlocks and mini-bosses! That’d be a fun way to keep veterans of the mode coming back. Just make sure to give us plenty of time to do 'em, to reduce salt intake.
Most of the rest of what I wanted was already addressed in the text stream: More guardian utility, more story stuff, info about Mimic unlocks, more useful stuff, etc.
I love this mode, guys. It may start to be detrimental to my online prowess, because I’ll be so ■■■■ hooked. I love it when action oriented games mix in elements of Strategy and World Domination, like Galactic Conquest in Battlefront 2. This mode is on the fast track to my heart, nestled right down with the rest of KI.
Wow, you have 62% of the dossiers? That is FN great. I thought I was good with 38%, but now I don’t feel that way.
I’ve been playing a Metric Butt Tonne of this mode, probably more than is healthy. And I’ve had some luck. Don’t feel bad.
So far the gameplay has been really enjoyable. The only 2 problems I had was a black screen while playing on the easy difficulty and the combo breaker was enable. While playing in Normal difficulty the game crashed in different ocassions while starting a mission. Which it was at random. Other than that it’s been been awesome!!
I enjoyed playing it, and I really love the “Choose your type adventure” type selections, you could receive perks or be punished for making the wrong choices (it really took me back to when I was a kid reading those books lol). The only issue that I really had was the load times, it takes a good while before you can get to the next fight, I wish there were more cut-scenes, i’ve only seen about like maybe 3-4 and that’s including the ending. Also the before fight mimic quotes… it seems like all of them like to mimic “Arnold Schwarzenegger” lol other than that it’s a very enjoyable mode.
Yeah I’m looking forward to playing it on PC myself…minimum load times.
Haha yeah it takes me back to those books too!
■■■■ gotta say @BlitzedKraig the final version was a big change from the beta. Haven’t done a full run yet but so far a HUGE upgrade from what it was. HUGE. I love it.
The opening ARIA cut scene (despite being reused) was nice to see. ARIA for world leader. <3
But anyway, I see you gave gargos some new moves to play with. A nice a touch. And I’m sure there’s more to find.
Glad you like it! Spread the word!
For sure. Does this mean I can have more ARIA stuff then?
@BlitzedKraig - my Astral Plane stage is now locked even though I’d beaten Gargos in Challenging in the beta. Does the stage unlock not transfer over? I was under the impression that it would
It’s on purpose, we have to beat gargos again on challenging or godlike to unlock it.
I like the changes they made. It’s definitely harder though, which could be bad for some of us low skill players lol but it’s all good. The best part about this mode though is that the possibilities are limitless! I can’t wait for an Eyedol and a Ultra tech expansion
Good luck fighting Gargos, he’s very difficult, I was so close to beat him on Normal, not going to spoil the new stuff he has, but if you want to re-unlock the Astral Plane you have to complete it on Challenging at minimum, so far I got a lot of fun.
Oh yeah, I noticed my astral plane was locked again. No biggie, I saw some of gargos’ new moves. Looks interesting. I have a plan though. Should be fun.
Meh. I didn’t like the mode enough to really want to have to do it again
It’s more fun if you pick tusk or Kim as your captain because of their cut scenes lol I mostly play single player since I’m not very good at fighting games. So the mode is welcomed by me. Try playing it on godlike if you like a challenge.
