Rank needs to be redone, until then I'm not participating

I asked for the number of total people playing, you gave me the Killers… How do I know how many other non Killer players are playing? As a matter of fact I play with my brother on a weekly basis and he’s still gold so I know for a FACT that not every player playing is a killer. You can choose to devolve the maturity of our discussion with your aggressive sarcasm. But you hardly answered my question. I’d like to thank you, but I can’t.

What would be nice if people would stop making hyperbolic claims with no conclusive data to back them. Some people are liable to believe such claims.

I can understand that. I’d say I’m in the vast minority, being that I’ve never been frustrated with losing a match. I’m a very patient man.

No you didn’t. You asked how many people are playing ranked - because that is the topic at hand.

I gave you an answer. Now you’re all salty about that - I suspect because you have nothing more substantive to say. I’m in the business of extrapolating available data into estimates of likelihood in the face of uncertainty (that’s my job) so you probably don’t want to pick this particular fight with me. When faced with uncertainty, you look at what you do know and what it tells you about the information that you are missing. This involves looking at both real numbers and making logical assumptions about the gaps in information. As long as you state your assumptions so that other people know how you conducted your analysis, this is fine.

I said there are about 5,000 Killers on ranked every month. I also explained where I got the number from so anyone reading it can repeat the experiment for themselves and come to their own conclusion. That’s pretty much the definition of a substantiated claim. I’m sorry that you don’t like the answer.

Also, just to apply a little logic - what is the complaint we keep hearing? Is it Killers complaining that they keep getting matched in ranked matches against Gold players? No, it’s Gold players saying they only get ranked matches against Killers. So does this suggest to you that there are more Killers or Gold level players playing at any given time? (I will give you a hint - more Killers.) This also fits with what we might suspect - that Killers spend more time playing than non-Killers. Because people not only prefer to do things they are good at, the longer you play the more likely you are to become a Killer.

Regardless, you can take this evidence and use it to estimate how many people play ranked every month. Based on YOUR assertion that there are basically two tiers (Killer and non-Killer) and the conservative estimate that, of the people playing ranked matches every month at least half are Killers, a reasonable estimate might be that around 10,000 people are playing ranked matches in a month. What we don’t know is how many matches each of those people play, where they are from and what time of day they are on.

Reasonable people can disagree on the specifics of the estimate, but you would be hard pressed to convince me - based on the numbers I can see, that 50,000 people were playing ranked matches every month. The idea that the “non-killers” (remember, this is your categorization) outnumber Killers 10:1 in Ranked play at this point in the game’s development is highly unlikely. So even if we use a generous range estimate of between 10-20,000 players/month in ranked (for which non-Killers would have to outnumber Killers 3:1 - which seems unlikely) it still shows us that we are dealing with a small global population. If you want to question any of these assumptions please feel free to do so. But don’t come back with some anecdotal garbage about your brother playing (which is the opposite of conclusive data) and questioning my maturity (which is an ad hominem intended to distract from the case at hand).

None of this says anything at all about how many people play other game modes, how good they are, how much time they put in, whether they enjoy it or any other things that are not relevant to the question at hand - just in anticipation of you deciding you would like to change the point of discussion again.

I only get frustrated if it was a HIGHLY intense match, both down to Danger, I do a misinput, other person ultras, and Tbags and Taunt Cancels. Then sends a hateful message, something like, “Haha You Scrub, you suck for doing that random DP. You suck being a killer. Go back to playing COD, Leave this game for the big boys…Smh”

Ah… well that’s understandable; that’s preposterously rude!

It really happened. That’s not something I can just make up. Lol

Ranked certainly needs some changes in my eyes, for a few reasons.

I haven’t played ranked in over 3 months now, I simply have no reason too. I made killer in about 3 days and then I was like…Well what do I do now??? I can never play enough or win enough to make top 32, so there is no motivation to play ranked.

I like the idea of top 32 but there are very few people that can play enough and even fewer that can win enough to reach that goal.

The main problem for me is that while the old system wasn’t perfect and was unforgiving it did do some things well, which made me want to learn more and keep coming back. which this system doesn’t at all.

In the old system I would go away and learn something new, implement it in to my game and climb a few ranks. This was an amazing feeling which made me want to learn more and keep coming back. In this current system that just isn’t the case once you reach killer. Which is a motivation problem for me, and i’m sure many others.

In this current system I just don’t know the standard of people, I fight a friend who’s only gold and have far better fights than many killers. In the old system if I came up against a lvl30 I knew I would prob lose, if I came up against a 15 I knew I would prob win. This again has gone in the current system.

Your rank used to show an estimate of your standard (well to me anyway) which was why you were always trying improve it, out of a sense of pride and achievement. Again once you reach killer in the current sytem that has gone.

I think there needs to be far more tiers added to the current system and relegations reintroduced even if it is very hard to relegated.

My ideal would be similar to Smite:

Bronze
1
2
3
4
5
Silver
1-5
Gold
1-5
Platinum
1-5
Killer
1-5
Then Ultimate
For the top of top and a goal for everyone to reach for even if unobtainable.

Simply put…The motivation to learn and improve needs to be put back into ranked.

Sorry for the length of this post.

These are just my opinions and other people may have different opinions which is all good.

P.S. the matchmaking doesn’t really bother me, you can match me up with anyone just give me matches and the motivation.

My fingers are crossed that they are going to adjust ranked in season 3.

It was mentioned in the interview that something is being done with ranked but no details were given so who knows if they’re completely redoing it or simply adjusting point values again.

*shrug * I actually very much like ranked as it is. I get matches quickly and just play as much as I’m able. My motivation to improve comes from my desire to keep losses off that score tally each month.

I absolutely despised the previous system. I’m not entirely opposed to some further delineation/categories within Killer, but I really hated KI’s original ranked system.

I’ve made similar points before, but replays don’t actually help me take notes so when I get obliterated, I can’t really tell why I died (usually it’s jsut one or two moves that can stuff everything I can do. Moreover, I can’t tell who I’m fighting, as I have no sight (for those who don’t know), thus meaning, from my perspective, every player is the same regardless of ranked. This means I can’t actually tell Killers from Bronze/qualifier tier players, so anyone who beats me badly could be considered cheap or broken etc…

I do wish there was a way I could tell who I was fighting and their rank, but you never know if that might come with the wordwide narrator release or season 3 on PC.

I’m not suggesting to go back to the old system. But to have a happy medium, some where in between the old and the new systems. With more divisions and more goals.

I’m really curious to see what they do for S3, as I assume Ranked Leagues will leave beta at that point.

I’m personally a fan of having individual rankings for each character. For example, I’m in Killer, but the only character I really know well enough to use at the Killer level is Thunder. If I want to play someone I’m unfamiliar with (Orchid for example, as I need her online achievements still) I will get absolutely hammered in a Killer v Killer fight.

If each character is ranked individually, and my Orchid is placed in, say, Silver tier, my opponents would likely be a lot closer to my skill level with that character. In order to do this, all you really need to do is adjust the system to rank each player’s character individually, but also make it so that you must select your character before doing a Ranked match search.

This isn’t perfect either, as my general game knowledge still comes into play, but I think this could be a reasonable option for Ranked Leagues with Season 3.

Yeah, I’ve thought about this a lot too. Especially since I don’t have enough time to play I find that I’m still good with my mains but last night I was using the whole roster to fight new players and just getting everything wrong. I couldn’t remember my Orchid basics for a full round.

Anyway, the hard part is that you are (or should be) a killer in terms of the fundamental game mechanics, so sending you back to qualifier is probably not right. I really don’t know the best way to handle this, but I have the same issue. I would love to have ranked matches with characters that I don’t main, but I’m nowhere near as competitive. As it is I lose about 60% of my ranked matches as a Killer.

I would love character specific ranking, but I just can’t see it happening. That’s why I didn’t mention it.

Honestly? I don’t think it’s too farfetched an idea. We haven’t heard anything about Ranked Leagues for a good long while and it’s still listed as a beta, so I think it’s highly likely we will see some changes. Who’s to say character-specific ranking isn’t part of it?

I’m just ready for Season 3 at this point, I can’t wait to get the official reveals and S3 launch started! In the mean time I need to pick a second character to focus on learning until S3 starts.
