TV ads, Killer Instinct Controllers, an Xbox One bundle with a customized Killer Instinct paint job. Basically the same things Gears of War and Star Wars got (Bundles wise).
I haven’t seen a single official KI controller available from MS at all and yet Gears can have one (not knocking gow by the way.)?
If they can’t even manage to do that then Killer Instinct will continue to suffer as it is.
Would Halo be as popular today if were just on MS’s homepage? I doubt that.
There were KI controllers at E3, and at Evo they announced KI xbox elite controller packs.

Okay. The controllers are confirmed. So where’s the tv ads?
You can’t have trailers without some televised ads to go with it (certain products apply).
Not one commercial has been made since KI was available from Season One, not even when KI was made available for PC.
Dude…
KI just doesn’t have a big name like SF or MK.
It wasn’t developed in Japan neither, so no support from them.
And it’s on xbox and a console war victim.
No matter what they do, they won’t change that.
MS and IG did a ton of promotion for the game.
Price pots, fight sticks, controller stuff, adds, 3 seasons, transperency, FREE TO PLAY, freakin’ figures, disc releases, PC releases, cross buy, cross play, awesome online
But who cares? If people wanna miss out on the best fighter there is than let them.
If you wanna support KI go watch 8bitbeatdown right now. KI is an online fighter. And it will have a bright future!

■■■■. I just hate the way KI is getting treated offline but admittedly online is thriving like crazy. I was going to post a topic concerning the lack of TV Spots but your reply already gave me the answers I sought.
The difference with KI and Smash is that when KI has a slot it never goes over time. Generally it finishes on time and in many cases it ends early. Smash needs a proper long time slot for matches that its fans will be happy with. There is some drama in the Sm4sh scene at the moment concerning how things weren’t run properly at Evo resulting in the whole schedule being held back.
As for the KI events, how many 8bit beatdowns or pro leagues get advertised on sites like Eventhubs or SRK? I send news tips for every event yet they never post about it. I know about all the Smash events cause they get advertised. That’s why it’s important for KI to have a decent spot at FGC events so it gets a chance for other people to watch. If KI did get proper advertising I wouldn’t mind as much since the FGC at large would be aware of it. But i understand why FGC sites wouldn’t make articles about it cause they need “the views” to make the news story worth it… which is the sad truth.
I never said that I think Smash is irrelevant, I just don’t agree with the scene having 2 of their games showcased at FGC events when they take so long to finish.
If a scene isn’t trying then I agree that you can’t put them over other proven scenes but KI has been trying. Maybe the steam is starting to run out after a few years without KI getting the recognition that other scenes may get but we do have Rick with CB and Brandon with KI cup and the MS prize money. We as players can’t give up… we just need that one moment like EVO moment 37. Maybe I’m being too optimistic but you never know what can happen. I’m aware of people frustrations, so please don’t think I’m the type who will ignore “nay-sayers” and keeps my head in the clouds.
I feel the KI has more of an online presence and would have to change their entire strategy to increase offline presence. Also Namco, SNK, Capcom and Sony have all been “forced” to collaborate to maintain business (in the offline FGC scene). MS is doing it wisely different.
off topic comment:
Unfortunately there wasn’t any and I have been agreeing with Paul on his bottom line but not in the way the discussion was held.
However, last night another competitor (seadragon) explained what’s bothering him in a bit more detail.

Brawlers at EVO..Idk, I don’t mean to hurt anyone feelings but I can’t see those as fighting games. But numbers are numbers and it’s what ppl care about. In my country the KI scene is so Little <=(
I honestly think that smash don’t need the fgc, the fgc needs smash. Outside of street fighter all the other scenes fall flat in viewership. The only series coming up close to the legacy of street fighter is smash.
You could try to replace the smash games by let’s say KI and I swear it would bring far less people/viewers to that event than any of the smash games.
I don’t know exactly how TO’s makes money out of tournaments but if it is about numbers of people showing up or watching, they will always go for the most popular games that bring more people/viewers.

Those packs look like crap. Its barely even visible that its KI and you have to have an elite controller as well. I think this guy means regular controllers and consoles
But I do agree KI has been advertised pretty good lately.
** I too dont understand why their are 2 Smash games at every tournament. Why does everyone love Smash so much? I just dont get it. I tried playing it and I cant find enjoyment in it.

It’s very important to remember that presece at major tournaments isn’t absolutely required for the games validity or existence. Case in point:
Dead or Alive 5. Hasn’t been seen in majors in years, still moooing like a good cash cow.
As long as things like 8bbd and kiwc are well attended, and people buy whatever content is realeased to MS’s content, we’re all good

Smash is a real fighting game. I don’t see how you can argue with that.

Clearly Microsoft doesn’t have Amir of faith in Ki when they can’t have real controllers. I mean I’m dying for a Ki controller but my only option is a kit for a elite controller. Really? They can’t get their own normal or elite controller why only stickers as ad ons.

What are you talking about? Madcatz released a KI TE2 at KI’s release in 2013. IMO it’s the best madcatz stick ever released with flashy lights on your buttons and everything. I still use it every day.
It’s sold out and not directly from MS but it happened. IMO MS is not to blame for the low offline tournament numbers. They are doing a lot to promote KI as I already said.
And why are guys bashing smash? Melee takes more skill and execution to be a top player than any other fighter. Smash 4 is easier but still very difficult to even move around efficiently. You guys have no idea. Party game my a**

I agree a lot with this part. I played (and still play) Melee and Project M at a below average level and its unbelievably complex for the simple input system it has. I agree it could be labelled an Arena Fighter, but not calling it an FG is nuts.

Agreed, your logic seems sound.
Yay! Now lets hope more than a handful of people show up this time. Otherwise Valle will be like “dafuq guys?”

You guys want ki in more tournaments? Well…sign up for them! It’s cool if you like watching, but you have to compete to let ki stay revelant in tournaments otherwise it will die off from that scene.
