The last time I was in the States I remember I asked for Caramel (the most similar to “Dulce de Leche”) and a friend (also from my country) tried peanut butter ice cream. He was totally surprised and upset because it was SALTY ice cream. I told him why would he ask for that flavor (because I learned my lesson years ago when I tasted peanut butter for the first time). He told me “I thought it would be sweet!!” his disgusted face while eating his ice cream was great XD lol
You see, most of us grew up watching american kids shows and they usually ate peanut butter. In our minds it was supposed to be very sweet and tasty. The reality is that it doesn’t taste like anything we have here so we just aren’t used to it =)

PS: He blamed me for not telling him about the peanut butter but I replied that I saw him so decided that I took for granted he knew about it :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’m sure some connoisseur would likely say differently, but they’re 2 names for the same thing: caramelized sweetened condensed milk.

It’s the way we call it here, I tasted caramel and it’s not the same. It changes depending on the country. In USA I found it wasn’t as sweet as here. When they elaborate it they use condensed milk but it’s not that exactly, it’s similar =)

BTW the most amazing caramel flavor I tasted was “dulce de leche” with condensed milk. It was a bomb!

Have you tried it?

Warning!: overly sweet Don’t mind the color :joy:

It has to be “darker” like the image. If it’s yellowish isn’t enough sweet to me. But that depends on how they make it.
Wow, now I want to have some. I’m going to eat banana with caramelized sweetened condensed milk right away (oh, I forgot I like Banana split flavor too :yum: )

PS: Ok, I checked, you don’t need condensed milk to get it. You can do it with milk alone with other ingredients.

Products always differ from region to region, mostly because everyone has developed tastes particular to their region. I imagine there’s a lot more to it than that though, just what I’ve always assumed growing up

Not just that, but products just vary from flavor to flavor in a similar region as well, and a lot of times it just depends on the quality if the ingredients. For example, NEVER get any Clover Valley branded products..they always cut costs by adding in cheaper ingredients. Their version of easy cheese (cheese that comes in a can similar to whipped cream) tastes like mayonnaise because they mix soybean oil in with the cheese. Most of their other products are unappealing as well, but they’re often cheaper than other products sitting on the shelf next to them, so people buy them.

Speaking of soybean oil, I think I might have an adverse reaction to it that may run in the family. It makes me itch and stuffy when I wake up in the mornings as of late. :nose:

from the local restaurants and markets yes, but big chain/brand products tend to be about the same.

Do you guys have something similar to Hot Wings there?

…I’m pretty fond of hot wings.

You might not if you knew what I know about them…

…honestly it’s not so much disgusting as it just seems wrong. If they’ve spent too much time in a warehouse freezer and the expiration date is almost up, some places, like one I worked at, will unpack them all, re-flash freeze them, and put them in new packaging with a newer expiration date. As bad as that may sound though frozen chicken can stay good (subjective, I know) for several years if not allowed to thaw.

if you mean chicken spicy wings yeap, you can find them now but I’m not sure if they are the same. What I’m sure is that spicy is not that popular even people kind of like it.

About meat in general, I heard that most of the world think we only eat meat in this country =/ (it is kind of true..)
