It looks good! It’s interesting, it’s beautiful, but… is it Super Mario?
When I first saw the city scape, the first thing that came to mind was Sonic. And when Mario rolled together like a ball, that just strengthened that feel, honestly. And then at the last part with the robotic worm, the first thing I thought was that it could just as well be one of Eggman’s creations.
The whole feel of the different areas and the gameplay just felt remniscent of other games, such as Kirby, which is still Nintendo property, but also crash Bandicoot and Banjo-Kazooie/Yooka-Laylee.
Not much of it felt Super Mario though. It felt more like stuff taken from other franchises.
From what I’ve seen, it looks fantastic. Pretty much the majority of things I’ve seen seems to be completely unique rather than the standard level we’re used to in Mario games. The city area in particular gave me a very strong Sonic Adventure vibe. However, while cool looking, I do understand that the “real life” models in comparison to Mario himself do feel rather clash-y at first. But I’m sure that’s what they were going for.
But that’s not the issue. That’s not what I am talking about.
What I mean is that it looks like Nintendo took stuff from other games to put into this one.
If it turned out to be Mario visiting these other franchises, such as Sonic, Kirby, Crash and Banjo-Kazooie, then it would make sense.
I’m not seeing it. Just because Sonic basically did New York with realistic humans around doesn’t mean Mario is ripping from it when he does it. The whole concept is Mario going to other worlds, which apparently includes ones similar to our own, so anything goes. Any similarities we draw to other games are coincidental.
I wonder how the game’s story is going to be like? Will it be just the simple “Peach is captured, Mario has to save her” or will it be something deeper than that?
Getting TONS of “Sonic 06” vibes. But then again, Sonic 06 would have been good if it WORKED. So maybe it will show up Sonic 06 as a huge shot to the Sonic franchise. It does LOOK good.
I pre-ordered the Switch today, getting it with Zelda, but this and Mario Kart 8 are definitely next!
Had to get used to the real world people, but I also like the diversity and the sense of feeling out of place, its refreshing.
