Is KI ranked literally just assholes?

I recently got back into KI after having played SF4, SF5, GGxrd, revelator, MKX and so fourth and I think I’ve played about 30-40 games so far, working my way back to Killer from Gold, and so far about 40% of all the people I’ve faced have been teabagging like little kids or just trying to double or tripple ultra to waste as much time as possible for everybody. Is this community literally just ■■■■■■■■ these days or do people actually play properly as well?

I don’t remember it being this bad back when I used to play more frequently.

It’s just the excitement of gold tier. I wouldn’t let it get to you that much, as I particularly don’t care for it as well, but the next opponent is only 2 fights away. There are great, fun, nice people in ranked, it’s just the bad tend to stick out a little more. Keep at it and good luck getting back to Killer.

On some days they are just out in force to ruin your good time. But most of us here aren’t out to rain on anyone’s parade.

With double or triple ultras, I could see them being alright once in a while, but you don’t have to celebrate every round with one, especially when gold and above matches are all best of 3, and they have to do it every time. If you’re looking to get better, it’s probably a good idea to enlist help here and play in lobby or exhibition and run sets, exchange advice, get to know the quality players.

Ranked isn’t always so bad, but sometimes stuff happens. Don’t let it get to you.

It’s just a bad run - it’s rare that I run into that kind of player, and I play every day, so my advice to you is this - play with us!

You must of just had a bad round of players, I don’t ever get hit with Thuggary that strong. If I do get that crap though I fire back with the worlds fastest teabag. I’ve actually been on a good streak of people sending “GG” and such. It’s just luck, you’re bound to run into garbage every now and then.
(My luck is SFV is awful though, teleporting Shotos teabagging like they just out played me while the connection is is trying to tell me that no I didn’t grab even though bison was holding on to ryu before I ate a shoyuken to the throat.)

I’d be lying if I told you I met more good players than bad, that said I still think the douches of online are limited.

In my recent experience, about…

15% opponents are pretty cool and openly accept defeat.

60% are neutral and have no comment or interaction.

25% are there to ruin the fun.

But yeah, it doesn’t usually happen back-to-back for me.

This is Ultra-combo.com so doing a twenty minuet ultra combo is well within the guidelines of playing “properly” so I can’t really sympathize there and teabagging sadly is part of the game as well so that hardly bugs me, though I come from a background of FPS games so teabagging is a part of everyday life and it doesn’t phase me, even Shadows teabag if their creator’s teach them to so obviously the devs don’t mind that behavior, its all in good fun.

If you think using intended game mechanics and a little razzing makes the community bad… you might want to chill a little. People don’t do extended ultras to “waste as much time as possible” they do it to see how big they can make their combos, its not a personal attack against you or an attempt to waste your time. :\ If the people who teabag you upset you enough to post on the forums about it, then they’ve done their job. They got under your skin and left you salty enough to complain about it. Dust off the sodium and queue of for the next match, don’t let it get you down.

used to tea bag in bronze and ish, didn’t know people took it seriously.

but yeah, in Killer now, and none of that in Killer League.

like ranked the most, the MU’s are pretty even aside from the odd matches.

I’m not salty or upset about the teabagging I just find it very childish and kinda sad. As for the ultra when you are on the opposing side of it all it’s actually doing is wasting your time which I find to be a horrific mechanic to have in a game, much like MKX fatalities which can be “neat” the first couple of times you see them but grow old and annoying quickly.

I guess the short version is I’d like the option to just quit the match and not be forced to watch this 30-60 second long time-waste and be on my way to the next game, to quit it I’d need to alt+f4 and re-enter the game which takes just as long as watching the whole thing if not longer so. Give me a button to leave the game once I’m dead and I’d be satisfied, people can ultra all they want on a dummy.

Ultra combos are the bread and butter of Killer Instinct and have been since the original games, its hardly a “horrific mechanic”. lol Its just part of the game, like it or not some fighting games are “finisher” focused and complaining about having to watch the finishers in a finisher heavy game is more childish than players who enjoy those games using in-game mechanics as they are intended to be used.

You’re not alone though, there are a lot of people who want to hurry it along and want to skip the ends of matches that aren’t going their way. I’m totally down for such an option, just so long as the announcer screams out “HUMILIATION” as the other player disconnects. xP

I’m mainly here to lament the continued erosion of the meaning of the word “literally”.

But also, prolonged ultras don’t add value to the match to anyone other than the person doing the ultra and people who watch combo videos on youtube. I’d be happy to see this stuff toned down and/or convenient mechanisms to button out introduced, and they probably shouldn’t be possible after a non-concluding match in a best-of-three.

Ultras come with the game, so you should always go in with the expectation that you may experience 1. If you don’t have this expectation and don’t want that experience, then you should either a) stop playing, which I’m sure you’d rather not do, or b) never lose, which everyone knows is impossible - after all, everyone loses eventually.

I can alt+f4 and get back into ranked faster than somebody can do a double or triple ultra, so that’s what I do. If you want to practice combos go into practice mode, duh.

Isn’t it strange that when I do sets against other people nobody does full ultras? Or that in tournaments nobody does full ultras? Or that in any kind of environment where people are trying to learn and win there aren’t full and double/triple ultras?

You’re right about the teabagging, though. It’s still a crap strategy to use, but to each his own, just don’t waste my time with double/triple ultras.

Would love for there to be a way to prevent long ultras online.

I suspect we’ll never see it, though, because a) they might not have a good solution, and b) they probably don’t want to give a bulk of people reason to quit the game.

I think they’ve made their bed and now they have to sleep in it, as much as it pains me to say. :frowning:

I think there should be an option to perform a really difficult Ultra Breaker during second and further ultras, giving 1% of life and continuing a match.

If you try to be a penis, face a little risk.

This is an actual image of what is on the other end of an internet connection in ranked, literally just this. They also perform triple Ultras with their butt facing the screen and everything.

I think this game would really benefit from the option to just leave a game when the match is done and skip watching all the ultra stuff. Imagine if you’ve played 10.000 games and let’s say 10% of those (which is low in my experience) do ultras on you, That’s 1.000 times you have to sit there watching something for 20-30 seconds, which according to my calculator (Unless I made an error as I averaged each ultra at 25 sec) would result in you sitting there watching 416.6 minutes of time waste. Which I assume is around 7 hours in total. For me however at the current rate I’d say about 40% of people spam ultras so I was lowballing the percentages quite a bit. I also forgot that it’s sometimes a FT2 and if they do ultra twice in a game then.. imagine the hours you’d sit there.

If you do love watching ultras then you could just stay and watch them but I would loooooooooove the option to leave for us that are old and have no time to waste :stuck_out_tongue:
