So I thought this was just a kan ra issue, but I’ve just been playing rash and riptor to get some shadow data, and i have attacks just completely not hitting, the AI is blocking but my attacks randomly just don’t make contact?
Could you provide some video about that?
What attacks are not connecting?
Gimme 5 minutes, i did grab a video but i need to rewatch it to see waht was going on as i wasn’t paying too much attention other than attacks not landing.
Right, so notice how her heavy flame attack about 9 seconds in sort of hits, then sort of misses? and near the end with the overhead tail stab just completely missing?
You should turn Hitbox display on to see what is happening. Mira is the smallest character in the game, width wise. Additionally, when getting up from a knockdown, all characters are completely invulnerable for 32 frames.
There is a great thread around here about how to understand hitboxes as well.
It was sort of just a pick up and play sort of day, rather than analysis, but notice with the heavy flame breath, Mira gets damaged, then 2 more of them hit just fine (looks like the near the 1st and last frame of the attack) with the middle part of the attack just doing nothing at all?
Look at the hitboxes. Mira is skinny. She was probably too close and the attackbox from the flame never touched her.
My professional Analysis:
Riptors Flame breath is a 3 hit move.
The first Hit made contact, and was a “COUNTER HIT”, which added extra hit-stun.
The 2nd hit for some reason, acted as if the counter-hit stun made Mira invincible to attacks for a short time, and did not connect properly. (In the same way that you cant THROW an enemy who is in hit or block stun)
So, if it ISNT a hit-box issue, then maybe there is a bug where Riptor’s flame breath cannot hit enemies who are in counter-hit stun. (Or maybe just MIRAS counter hit-stun)
Errr… there are many times I may not agree with @TheKeits but when he tells you how to understand what you are seeing in the game for which he is the lead combat designer…
(Just do it)
Right well, I can’t actually see any options in the pause menu in practice mode so I can’t do anything… all it shows is the background overlay
Right managed to blindly turn on hitboxed, I can’t even reproduce this problem, and i’ve been trying for about 15 minutes, riptors flame clearly is meant to push the enemy back when it hits, but as my 1st video shows, it completely just ignores several of the middle parts of the attack, since it does hit 1st and last. and you can see from this video, i get as close as i possibly can to try get riptor’s hitbox to move over mira. So her hitbox being “too small” doesn’t seem right since it’s random and not even reproduceable. It looks to me like it just didn’t add her top half hit box back in when I was fighting her legit.
And this isnt just on riptor, I’ve had it with other characters too where it just does nothing at all, for instance rashes swing ball thing, there’s no way you can tell me that can just miss the enemy hit box and i just push them along while doing nothing.
I can tell you lots of things. But you won’t believe me unless you see for yourself.
You aren’t doing what you did in the first video in the second video. In the first video, your first flame whiffed because she was in knockdown. Then the second three flames came out very close to Mira.
Instead of trying to recreate it in practice, go to your in game replays (single player, fight archive, replays) and pick the match you recorded for the first video. Go to the display menu and turn in hit boxes. Watch what happened in the first match.
The ability to turn these on and off is one of the best things about the in game replay system (and part of why you can’t do simple things like rewind). You can use the DVR to record your playback if the replay and then post it here if you want. Good luck.
If I’m not being clear I can try to walk you through it again.
Her hit box rises into the first attack. This is why she is so close to Riptor for the next three hits, causing the second hit of the triple to miss.
Anyway, now you see the hit boxes and why the second hit misses. You’ve also been unable to recreate it in practice mode, which suggests it’s not going to happen a lot. If you did it exactly the same again (along with Mira going for the hit) you would see the same thing. The point being it isn’t a bug. And now you’ve learned a lot about using the replay and the hitboxes to help you figure stuff out.
Post the video and we can talk about it. Looking at this one, I would guess that the combination of Mira standing up into the first flame, and her attempt to attack keeps her close here when she might otherwise be pushed back. But show the video and we’ll have a look.
Go back and watch the video again. That first flame definitely whiffs (the single, not the first of the triples). The hurt box is gone before Mira’s hitbox rises into it. Don’t let the animations of her standing up fool you into thinking she’s reacting to the hit - the boxes don’t lie. And if she was hit by that attack she couldn’t throw out the attack that she starts before Riptor’s first hit of the triple flame.
This is why you can’t recreate it. The timing to miss her rising with that hit is only a frame or two.
