Mick Gordon's legacy discussion

yes, it was so good even Robin Beanland recommended him on Twitter and was surprised by the passion.

EDIT: It was both Beanland and Graeme Norgate, and both are at the comments section of the part 1 of the video.

Well itā€™s clear that Celldweller is a fan of SOMETHING.

Iā€™d like a redo on Riptorā€™s theme. Actually Iā€™d like a redo on Riptor as a whole lol

This new Riptor is terrible. I hate what they did to her

While I think itā€™s unfair to judge them until we actually here them make a real KI theme (Rashā€™s theme is nice but itā€™s technically a remix of another game so that does not count)

I have to say they are under ALOT of pressure so I wish them luck.

Until we hear Kimā€™s theme Iā€™ll with-hold my judgment on them until then.

Personally on that note: I love RIptorā€™s theme, I just wish he had mixed more of those tribal beats from KI1 to Riptorā€™s modern theme

However letā€™s just not keep talking about what he didnā€™t do well, letā€™s keep talking more about what Mick did RIGHT! which was pretty much most of the other characters.

When you consider what RIptor COULD of been, which would of been some feathered chicken of doom( literally all an feathered raptor) Iā€™m greatful she looks the way she does. Sure there could of been more to desire in some ways, but I like her new design and I still love the old look just as much.

Mick was and still is an excellent composer. Iā€™m looking forward to his work on Doom4.
While there may have been missteps, overall KI has one of the best, most memorable, undeniably iconic musical scores in all of video game history, right up there with the original DOOM and Halo soundtracks, in my firm opinion. Both old and new are incredible pieces of work, and Iā€™d like to thank Mick Gordon for his contribution to this awesome game.
I can only hope that Celldweller and Atlas Plug can live up to the hype, though from what Iā€™ve seen Iā€™m confident theyā€™ll do a good job.

Riptor is the best returning character of season2. Animation wise, moveset wise, gameplay wise and design wise.

I guess so. I still hate the fact that they took away the human-raptor hybrid idea. The cyborg thing is too obvious. The hybrid was much more original and having her be a cyborg kind of takes away her charm for me. I hate it.

Wholeheartedly disagree. The new design is terrible when you look at some of the fan redesigns that actually followed who and what she was, not creating an entirely different character. This is NOT the Riptor we all knew and loved from the old games. This is an abomination of a fantastic idea.

Well said! MIck is amazingā€¦ I have been listening to the SOund tracks non stop for weeks nowā€¦and i have 100s of CD and filesā€¦ music is my life and its been dominated by MIcks sountrack lately! :smiling_imp:

Speaking from a purely anatomical perspective, she actually is a human raptor hybrid. Look at her arms and hands; fairly certain raptors didnā€™t have thumbs. Not to mention her mostly upright torso, another human feature. Plus, in her story itā€™s described as ā€œthe ferocity of a raptor, and the loyalty of a human soldierā€, which suggests that her mental capacity has been altered with human genes. If anything, sheā€™s even more of a hybridization if you include the cybernetics.
Personally, I love the design. They kept the goofy, sci-fi premise but made the raptor part of her actually look like an anatomically correct raptor. (edit: Under closer inspection, from a side view, they look much better)
My only complaint is the teeth look too conical and straight. Raptors and other theropod dinosaurs had teeth that were curved backwards and lined with tiny, shark-like serrations for gripping prey and tearing meat.
ā€¦and maybe her theme couldā€™ve used more umf. Maybe some electronic or metal music to accent it.

I can not, and will not take this arguement seriously with that statement no siree bob.

I think the new Riptor track actually sounds really close to the old one! I find it funny that a lot of people hate the new one but claim to love the old one. They are almost identicalā€¦they both have a strange intro with some sort of wind instruments, then a very low menacing bass that builds and then becomes an ominous stalking type rhythm.

They arenā€™t much different guysā€¦ I think Mick tried to copy the old with his new spin on itā€¦just like he did with Cinder , Fulgore, and Glacius.

Well in KI1 she was indeed a hybrid just like the new Riptor only difference is she had the serpentine features that you can argue explained her ability to spit the acid balls and such. It just didnā€™t seem anatomically correct due to the fact that she had a slightly more human influence in her torso area, and her head was more akin to that of a snake such as a python. Considering everyone else had super skinny wastes in KI1 this was kind of odd looking for some folks which I can understand. However I really loved her old look because it has such an awesome mix of features.

That being said this Riptor pretty much lost the snake attributes which could of made her hybrid appearance appear more obvious. But on the other hand she did gain the cybernetics which explained her ability to breath fire via fire-generators.

Considering I love reptiles and snakes and dinos KI1 Riptor was so awesome for this.

And since I also happen to think cybernetic monsters can be awesome as hell I love the 2013 Riptor design aswell. Iā€™m just glad they added their own twist to it instead of just making her a fully feathered raptor, which honestly just looks silly in my opinion. At least they gave that as an accessory so everyone can have a slightly more ideal Riptor for themselves.

I love both tracks, the only thing that was missing was some tribal like beats the original had. Or if any to make those just a bit more obvious. Other than that, Riptorā€™s new theme was pretty good. Especially since the version we could of gotten was just techno-ey stuff minus the savae wildness that her theme gave.

I admit the the lack of the tribal drum beat(or if they are there itā€™s not pretty obvious) may have made RIptorā€™s new theme slower than the KI1 theme itā€™s still one of my favorites.

As for these new guys I donā€™t have high hopes for them, but I will still withold my thoughts until I see what they can do with an official KI characterā€™s theme.

I have never heard the Riptor track that never wasā€¦is there a link our a way i can hear it?

Some folks will porbably post it here. But I have to say that theme just makes me think of a controlled robot rather than a savage animal.

I tried searching on youtube and cont find it. :frowning:

Check Mickā€™s vine account, thatā€™s where he put them. I remember one titled ā€œstrainā€ for sure. Canā€™t remember the other titles. Iā€™d link them for you but Iā€™m on mobile right now. If nobody posts them or you donā€™t find them by the time Iā€™m on my laptop again Iā€™ll post them here.

Cool, ill check it out! thanks!

They did the same to Orchid, so I can relate.

Honestly I donā€™t get what you mean hereā€¦

All fan designs of orchid are u g l y (forum censoring), over sexualized, and so onā€¦

If you mean just the new design then I really disagree

All the characters have amazing new designs, which I would argue better then any desgin in the old games COMBINED!

Maybe we should get back on topic now?
